[history]
The gathering appeared to be a typical summer barbecue. Neighbors watched guests in Erick Irvis' back yard toss around a Frisbee as he tended the grill. But rather than hot dogs and hamburgers, Irvis was grilling Black Angus ribs and dense pieces of organically raised bison.

Note: Hobbits have a tendency to be big on broth: You like broth, don't you?

Cool!
That's not what I thought lembas were like, though. Oh well.
I'm saving this; maybe we'll have a "Hobbit Feast" to celebrate the opening of TTT.:)

That's not what I thought lembas were like, though. Same here -- I pictured it as small (very small), crunchy, unleavened cracker-like cakes (and for some reason, white). Very portable, wouldn't spoil even on long journeys, and therefore not containing the type of ingredients listed.
But the other foods sound very interesting!
To: Pippin
Okay. Got the mushrooms. Does anybody have a good recipe for portabella caps?
To: Overtaxed
I hear there's a recipe for stuffed Portobellow caps. but I'll have to look it up!

Hey, you forgot to tell us the ADDRESS!
To: Overtaxed
Overtaxed, I think I'm going to want her cookbook, I'm so out of control on LOTR. But I'm not sure the recipes are very hobbity; they sound more
elvie.
I sort of think hobbits like stuff like bacon, steak and kidney pie, meat pies, pot roast, that kind of stuff.

I agree. Sun dried tomatoes and jalapeno peppers don't sound very hobbity. Those elves are taking over. They're everywhere! They're everywhere! :)
To: Overtaxed
Yeah, I've been known to defend the elves, but when it comes to eating, I think I'm a human, I mean a hobbit, maybe even a dwarf, that red meat off the bone in front of a roaring fire sounded all right.

I hear there's a recipe for stuffed Portobellow caps. I opted for marinated portobello mushrooms done on the grill:
Grilled Marinated Portabello Mushrooms --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 large fresh portabello mushroom caps
3 cups dry red wine
2 tbsp. shallots or red onions (minced)
2 tbsp. fresh garlic (chopped)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp. fresh rosemary (chopped)
1/2 tsp. dry thyme
To taste salt and pepper
Place mushrooms in a shallow pan; combine remaining ingredients and pour over the top of the mushrooms. Marinate for 1-2 hours, turning once. Remove from marinade and cook on hot grill for 3 minutes on each side. Slice and serve as a side dish or main course.
