I noticed that too, Landerwy! Oh, well, at least the guy is honest about it! (So he'd never make it in politics!)
According to (I think) the opinions of many of us out here in "flyover" country, vociferous New Yorkers often think they know more than they do. I mean, there are apparently still people in New York who really believe that people in the mid-section of the country don't have indoor toilets.

I was a nanny for a family in Manhattan. The wife was from Nevada, so she knew there was civilization out West. But her friends were convinced that civilization ended in Chicago, and that we all out West lived with the sheep and the Indians. And I was a novelty because I came from a family of TEN children. We were just poor benighted souls out here.
I did love living in NYC though, I love the cultural life, and the fast pace there. There are some really good people there, just kind of abrupt at times.
