Seems to me if he had some guilty secret, he would be more than happy to jump on the "runaway theory" bandwagon. But he didn't

I'm sure the family, especially with all the people arriving at their home, knew they couldn't say she ran away because they had to know if they said runaway, they wouldn't get any help from the cops.

In fact, two detectives from the Salt Lake Police Homicide Squad and I searched the Native American Burial Vault, with psitech representatives waiting outside. We searched it very carefully and found nothing at all to indicate that anyone had entered the vault since the remains of 75 Native Americans were interred there in May, 2001. I really have no idea why the Psitech people are upset-- perhaps because they wanted to look inside for themselves."

Actually there was 64 total posts between post 555 where you said "That's a joke. Right?" and 619 where you said "I'm NOT intolerant of sherlock's views -- just the way they're presented." Six of which were from you. The seventh one was post 619.

Exactly! If your idea here is correct, then they wanted help from the cops. (So they downplayed the possibility of her being a runaway.) If they were hiding some secret knowledge, that one of them had murdered her or sent her away, they wouldn't WANT any help from the cops. If they didn't want any help from the cops, that, to me, would have pointed towards guilt on their part.

The runawaytheory has been rejected over and over by most anyone who has followed the case, myself included.

Not only that, but even if she HAD been a runaway, something has clearly gone terribly wrong, and by now this girl is either in desperate need of help--or dead.

I can't see any police force, SLC included (and certainly not the FBI) being willing to concede defeat by a young girl who has simply run away and refuses to come back. People always say Ricci just wouldn't have been sophisticated enough to pull off this kidnapping w/o leaving a trace; do they think some 14-YR-OLD GIRL would be sophisticated enough to disappear on her own, leaving absolutely no trace?

Hey, you know, another thing I think of, when I think of those who are right in Utah, in or near SLC--I think of the local police and their connections. In the Chandra case, either the D.C. chief, or his assistant, once made this comment: "The strange thing about the Levy case is, there was no street talk. Our people tried to tap into the usual street talk that occurs after a crime, but...nothing." That's not the exact words, but that's definitely the gist of what was said. The implication was, of course, that if there was no street talk, then perhaps the "usual suspects" (known criminals) were not responsible for the crime.

So I wonder if the police have heard any "street talk" about the Smart abduction?

I have a friend who is a detective for the Provo police dept. I've tried grilling him to see if he has the inside scoop, but he is very closed mouthed. The only thing he says to me is that he is glad he isn't a detective for the SLPD. Even his wife can't get him to talk about the cases he works on. He'll tell details only after the perp(s) are in prison.
