I have boocoodles of faith in President Bush, VP cheney and Secretary Rumsfeld. (Powell hasn't made my list yet). I have no doubt they saw this coming and knew in advance what their response would be. It's just that this slows down the whole process and I hate it when Saddam gets ANYTHING.

Here we go:

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 16, 2002 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- The White House dismissed an Iraqi offer Monday to let weapons inspectors return there unconditionally, calling it a tactical move that did not change the Bush administration's desire to remove Saddam Hussein. The White House released a written statement that called the offer "a tactical step by Iraq in hopes of avoiding strong U.N. Security Council action."

"As such, it is a tactic that will fail," spokesman Scott McClellan said in the statement.

"This is not a matter of inspections. It is about disarmament of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the Iraqi regime's compliance with all other Security Council resolutions," McClellan said in Washington. thread here

Actually, I think the Pres and Rummy & Cheney and Rice and Powell knew this would be Iraq's response. Bush said nothing about setting the standard as low as allowing in the weapons inspectors.

Bush is demanding a resolution holding Iraq accountable for ALL the issues he signed on to at the end of the Gulf War. Irag's "appearance" of going along with inspectors now, simply buys us time to get our troops into the region. I heard yesterday there are 4000 troops leaving for Kuwait this week.

Knock knock knockin' on Saddam's door.
