A Milford boater who allegedly came ashore nude in front of shocked diners at a waterfront restaurant in Stratford and proceeded to wrap himself in plastic has been arraigned on multiple charges. Dale Hallquist, 43, of Andrews Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court on charges of risk of injury to a minor, public indecency and breach of peace in the second degree. Judge Sheridan Moore released Hallquist on a promise to appear in court Oct. 16. According to police, on the evening of Aug. 8 they received a call about a naked man at Knapp's Landing Restaurant in Stratford. Harbormaster Albert Grunrow said he saw the nude male in a boat that motored to rocks in front of the waterside restaurant. He said the man climbed onto the rocks in front of horrified patrons dining with their children. The man began yelling and then defecated on the rocks, according to the report. When Grunrow confronted the intruder, he said the man went back to his boat, where he began wrapping himself in plastic wrap, claiming it was his survival suit. Police said they tried to talk Hallquist into coming ashore, but he refused. They finally took him into custody with the help of the marine unit. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for examination. His boat was later towed to a private dock on the Milford side of the river. Daniel Tepfer, who covers state courts and law enforcement issues, can be reached at 330-6308.
