Elizabeth Smart thread, August 31-September 7, 2002
Posted on 08/31/2002 10:26:34 AM PDT by IamHD
My prayers go out to the Ricci family during this time. RR was sent up the river and used as a scape-goat. No evidence, whatsoever, linking him to the disappearance of Elizabeth.
May he rest in peace.

So Angela may sue because Ed Smart wasn't totally truthful in his dealings with Richard Ricci? His business dealings? Allegedly not paying taxes on the money he paid Ricci? Or the car he gave Ricci for services rendered for the handyman work done on the Smart home? Did you also forget that Ed Smart confronted Angela Ricci at a court appearance of Richard's several weeks ago? He spoke to her for about 25 minutes, asking her to ask Ricci to come clean. No dice.
Yes, Ed may not have been truthful in all the areas you mention. He may have had shady "business" dealings with Ricci or other workmen he hired.
Ricci may have heard and observed things in the Smart household that Ed might be concerned about. Ricci may have even looked at the computers there -- who knows?
What's your point about Ed pleading with Angela to have her husband "come clean?" Of course there would be "no dice" if he was innocent.

Ooops. My reply starts with "yes"

It's virtually impossible to sue the media and win. I agree with that. What is she going to sue the SLPD for? They never said anything other than he was a person of interest. Maybe the prison if they weren't monitoring his health properly.

I'm not laughing at unbelievable stupidity. You've posted all these long, drawn-out scenarios, trying your best to find a way to incriminate Ricci, totally ignoring the obvious.
He would have had an alibi for every single day - and night - if he was the perp!

And have you read official documents - ones Ricci signed - that state he voluntarily admitted to thefts or a bank robbery? No. Have you heard Angela say that the news reports of this were lies?

OK, but is that grounds for suing? "He didn't pay taxes on my husband's salary." I do not agree with not paying taxes, but Ricci was probably grateful Ed Smart didn't (and we don't know that for a fact, that Ed didn't pay taxes on the money.) And if Ricci looked at the Smart computers in their home, what could be on the computer that would cause Angela to sue? Sorry, this is just not logical. Are you coming from the allegation that the Smarts may have been pressuring the SLPD to keep Ricci as a suspect in the abduction? Pretty hard to prove in a court of law.
Like I've said many times, if the perp is ever caught and is brought to trial, there are going to be lots of answered questions. And probably some information that we didn't even consider.
To: sandude
No. Have you heard Angela say that the news reports of this were lies?News reports are not official documents and are not considered such in courts of law.

No. Have you heard Angela say that the news reports of this were lies? Good point. All I've heard Angela say is what a wonderful kind man was to her son and to Angela. And he probably was. And she has denied he took Elizabeth, but has never said a word about the burglaries. Good catch.

Pretty hard to prove in a court of law.You don't have to worry about proving your case in a court of law. That's why there are "settlements."

that huge font brings those of us who are consumed with vile hatred waddling to the trough to see what you've dished up for us!!!
ROFLMAO Good one, Freedox! Now, every time I see Neenah's extra-extra large fonts, I'll have to begin my snorting and oinking. (My 3-year-old will love it!)
To: varina davis
Oh, so Angela is just in this for the money. Or the Smarts won't want their dastardly secrets to come out. Well, I wouldn't pay Angela one red cent, I'd make her take me to court (rhetorically speaking) and prove her allegations.
To: sandude
No, I haven't heard Angela deny burgalaries but, then, I've never heard her questioned about them, either.
Answer my questions!

Since he was on the short list of suspects, why didn't they bother making a quick check of his record.
You know, now that I think of it, I don't think Ricci was exactly unknown to the SLCPD. Cops generally have good, and long, memories, and I'd be surprised if the name Richard Ricci didn't ring more than a few bells when it was first mentioned in connection to the Elizabeth Smart case.
With that in mind, it's even more surprising that they didn't keep a closer eye on him during the days that followed the abduction -- except that LE must have been completely overwhelmed with the aftermath of ES disappearance.
To: Utah Girl
Oh, so Angela is just in this for the money.No. I think she'd rather have her husband back. But after grief comes anger and she may want to tell what her husband confided in her. I can't imagine the Smarts would want to go to court, considering what they might be asked to submit during the discovery portion of a trial.
To: Sherlock
You're awfully quiet tonight. And I'm about ready to go to bed.

Like I said, I'd tell Angela to go for it. I'd call her bluff.
To: lakey
I'm mad at you because you didn't tell me the story. I've got to go now too though, later!
