Elizabeth Smart thread, August 31-September 7, 2002
Posted on 08/31/2002 10:26:34 AM PDT by IamHD
My prayers go out to the Ricci family during this time. RR was sent up the river and used as a scape-goat. No evidence, whatsoever, linking him to the disappearance of Elizabeth.
May he rest in peace.

"So you think the Amber alert shouldn't have been issued? Elizabeth's abduction did fit all the requirements. The alert did work as intended, we all knew about the abduction."
I don't know if the alert should have been issued or not. I'm just pointing out that the most useful aspects of the Amber Alert system have been missing in this case. I agree that we all know about the abduction, but I really don't see how that has been of any benefit in this case. (Well......except for providing many of us with something to do......LOL!!)

Yah, I was just thinking the other night if this case is ever solved, we're all going to have to get lives... :)

Thanks for responding, sandude. I can't say that I agree with all of your points, but I do appreciate your well reasoned (and gentlemanly) approach to the issues I raised.

I'm sorry, Sherlock, but I try to limit my playing along with your posts to one per day......I don't want to become numb to the sheer joy of interacting with you.

I do not doubt that Moul saw Ricci, all muddy in a foul mood, and removing things from the rear of the Jeep. But why has no one else from Moul's shop come forth? Maybe the day Moul saw all this was actually May 30th or 31st, and Moul has his dates wrong. Moul seems to get confuse easily in my opinion after watching him on Ashleigh Banfield and the Primetime Live show, he does not seem to understand what some of the english language means. Why have the police not come out and backed up that believe Moul completely. When the Jeep was picked up after the first repair, come-on folks did Moul see him like he has said or did the Jeep disappear also like Moul has said? Someone else had to see Ricci, besides Neth Moul! Where or where are you and your statements?

Another thing... Why did the police not tail Ricci from day one after they paid him a visit that occurred before 12 hours had past after she was reported kidnapped? They must have not thought that Ricci played a part in this after the first interviewed with him otherwise they would have tailed him.

I can't make heads or tails of your point in this diatribe but I know when your fontsize goes up you think you have something on the family. Maybe Uncle Tom Smart did take her.

Ed said police officially named Ricci as a suspect, when, in fact they did NOT.
At this time the police did make a different statement to the effect that they now did consider him to be a suspect though not officially naming him to be one. They obviously backed off on that because they only said it once and never said it again.

Brace for this but you're absolutely right. You're doing better. I don't know why the police have been going out of their way to protect the identity of Ricci's accomplice and probably the guy that kidnapped Elizabeth, I think they've known who it is since the first day or so. Early I thought because they thought he would keep her alive possibly, now I can't imagine unless they just think they need more evidence to try and convict him. Maybe because he is a link to people higher that they're still building a case against. I have a hard time believing they have no evidence and no clue what happened like they keep claiming.

ROFLOL!!!! I think Sherlock may be onto something here!! Please keep it up, Neenah.....that huge font brings those of us who are consumed with vile hatred waddling to the trough to see what you've dished up for us!!!

It seems odd that things were "so" convoluted days after the disappearance. Why did it take so many interviews with MK to get the "true" description of the cap? A flat cap with a bill is NOT that hard to describe. Boylan said she was artistic - she could have drawn the dern thing! I said many weeks ago that the initial information that came out was probably more accurate than what came out weeks afterward. First impressions, ya know, long before they found evidence to fit the potential suspect.
I still think it probably was a white baseball hat. It was also seen by the milkman, on the security video at the Federal Heights convenience store shortly before the kidnapping, and by the searchers. During the investigation police may have been told by acquaintances of Ricci that he wore an English racing/golf hat so when they realized he was involved, because they are trying to hide the ID of the person who took Elizabeth from the public, they changed the hat to this style they knew his accomplice Ricci wore. Didn't they change the color too from white to tan?

Since he was on the short list of suspects, why didn't they bother making a quick check of his record. If they had you'd better believe they would have started following Ricci and Liz may well be back at home now.

It would have made national news if they, in fact, had said he was a suspect. Even after his death they can't say it. Ed Smart was not the spokesman for the SLPD and should not have said anything about Ricci's status, period.
I don't know what to tell you but this did happen, I believe it was a quote by Dinse that they now considered Ricci to be a suspect. They never said it again. I'm not going to try to find it, how about some help from someone else that remembers this also.

Thanks for the article, UG. In the wedding photo, we can see Ricci's arm and hand. There is black hair on the arm, but I can't really tell about the back of his hand there. Could someone blow up that part of the photo?

I do not believe for one minute that Ed is the "fumbling bumbling" goof that he appears to be. I do not believe that Ed is a goof. He is very intelligent but is not polished in the ways of public speaking. He gets a little tongue tied at times. I think a good deal of this is caused by the fact that he can't tell the media the things that he knows because of the gag order that LE has placed on the family.
My contention is that Ed insists that Moul is completely credible (he said so), and that Moul has no reason to lie (he said so).
Is Ed not allowed to express his opinion about Moul? Is it alright that Ed agrees with the FBI/SLPD in their assessment of the case?
Who does the media keep going to for their "answers"? Ed Smart.
Who would you suggest the media question about the case? Don't you think that they love Ed because he gives them ratings? The polarization that we see in this thread exists in the general populace as well. There is no middle ground when it comes to Ed Smart. People either hate him or admire him. When the media has somebody like that it means instant ratings. As long as the case remains in the public's view you had better get used to seeing Ed Smart getting some mug time. It's capitalism dear and it isn't going away, so I know that I'll get to chat with you about this again.

He didn't rise to the top of the potential suspect list until after the 8th. It will be interesting to see why that happened. We will have to wait for the books to come out.
