In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
ineluctable \in-i-LUCK-tuh-bul\, adjective:
ineluctability; noun
ineluctably; adverb
1. Impossible to avoid or evade, inevitable.
2. Not to be overcome by struggling; irresistible.
Linnaeus' classification scheme became popular not because it captured some ineluctable truth about nature. Rather, by the botanist's own admission, the system divided species based more on intuition than science, much as an art historian might group paintings into schools.
--"Cultivating a New Tree," Los Angeles Times, September 25, 1999
Etymology: Latin ineluctabilis, from in- + eluctari to struggle clear of, from ex- + luctari to struggle, wrestle; akin to Latin luxus dislocated. Date: circa 1623

TOPICS: Education; Humor; Word For The Day

gentle torture? hmmmm.....
Well, I do have a dentist appointment this morning, while it's technically torture, it is neither gentle nor at your hands! lol.

am i wrong in thinking that South Park is Korean anime? ; )The animation may be done in the ROK, but the characters, writers, and producers are All American.
To: Sword_of_Gideon
i despise going to the dentist! hope it won't hurt too bad, SG!

i was teasing, given that PARK is a very common Korean name and orientals are so into that animation stuff. while i have never seen the show, i am familiar with it.

Doubtful... just a cleaning today, although that can sometimes be a little uncomfortable.... maybe I can talk them into giving me the gas.... everything goes better with gas.
To: Sword_of_Gideon
every time i go for a cleaning, he gets out the calculator and his son's tuition bill and starts thinking up renovations and refurbishing.

They try that on me (never had a cavity though).... everytime they try to talk me into having my wisdom teeth removed. At the age I am now, I keep telling them I've grown attached to them & am not planning on parting with them anytime soon since they fit & don't cause too many problems.

never had a cavity? aren't you the lucky one? xshub is cavity free and always gets good reports from the dentist. hopefully the kids take after him. we had well water w/o flouride growing up, so i don't know if it is that or hereditarily weak teeth or what.

I was allergic to milk as a child & always took calcium growing up. I've never broken a bone & the dentist says my teeth have extremely thick enamel. My one daughter takes after me (allergic to milk & takes calcium), so hopefully she takes after me as well since the wife is the one with the weak teeth (seems like everytime she goes they find one or two more cavities).

Plus, I hate needles & am terrified of them, so it's good that I've never had a cavity.

I say old bean would you pull my finger?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
To: Sword_of_Gideon
xshub is the weenie of all weenies and would truly have to be completely put under to have a cavity filled, i have no doubt. so same as you, good he never had one!
my youngest is the only one with cavities and she is a thumbsucker so it could be that. or it could be that she is my clone (which she is) and takes after me, in that regard as well.

I know what you mean... I have to go for my yearly physical next month & I hate the old bloodwork part of it.... I've passed out before & have even smashed my own toes on one foot with my other foot right before they stick me so that I'll concentrate on the pain in my foot & not the fact that they're sticking me. I'm sure there's some psychological term for someone like me who can tolerate self-inflicted pain but can't stand a small pin prick from someone else.
