Survivor V kicks off on Thursday September 19th, and since a lot of us Freepers had fun speculating on Marquesas, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the upcoming series.
The bios are out, which you can check out here, and there's already been scandal associated with two of the castaways.
First there's Brian, an actor/used car salesman, who neglected to tell the show that he had a few "blue" movies in his past. They cast a porn star!
Then there's Tonya. Her story could have a lasting impact on the outcome of the show. Shortly before filming came to an end, Tonya's father back in Tennessee was tragically killed in a car accident. Reports are that she was immediately evacuated from the island.
If Tonya was one of the first 7 people ejected from the show, then her departure would have no impact on the outcome. However, if she made it past the merger and either onto the jury or in the final two, then that could mean one less vote in the final two, or something even stranger. Only time will tell.

Clay's hometown newspaper reported that he lost 30 pounds while he was gone. That's a sure sign that he's not going anytime soon. If Clay is a restaurateur, he'd do well to set himself up as the camp cook (ala Rudy-S1 and Keith-S2). They always seem to last long into the competition.

"Im still trying to figure out why John was voted off?" John made a HUGE mistake in the Early going!!!!
He not only played the bossy-card from the gitgo, he then seperated himself from the entire tribe, then he played a "Joke" on the nearly-drowned-while-swimming tribe members.
Man Oh man this guy was dumb, with a capital DU!
Darwinists rejoice, for once again he seems to assert his theory in a most dramatic way!
My obvious choices would have been the sick member or the puzzle-challenged one and kept John at in his place for the physical challenges.

Couldn't ANYONE have been bright enough to bring a tarp as their luxury item?? That skateboard is going to come in really handy. NOT!!!!
Great recap Cuz. See you all next week.

Okay. Those are bought and paid for.

Couldn't ANYONE have been bright enough to bring a tarp as their luxury item??CBS wouldn't let them do that. I think the rule regarding luxary items is to make a list of five things and CBS will choose, or something like that, please someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure that you can't bring anything that will have an obvious use, such as bringing a tarp as a cover, or a knife, or hammer, etc. But bringing something that you can be creative with is a good idea. A skateboard isn't a good idea.

Plus its hard to do reverse fakeys off a bamboo halfpipe.

I always wondered if they'd let me bring a carton or two of smokes as a luxury item. It gets boring around that camp, and lighting up (after fire were accomplished) would help while away the hours. Of course, my team might have a little trouble on the physical challenges, but we'd be a lot more convivial.

A little side-game for Survivor watchers is called "Spot the Nicotine Patch."
Sue Hawk had one, so did MadDog Marilyn, and I can't recall who else.
I wouldn't go without my Marlboros.

Ya, I sensed Helen to be a little on the bitchy side...

Now, consider this: I (a female) am unusually good at jigsaw puzzles. But I have absolutely NO sense of direction. I still need a map to get around town, and I've lived here more than 10 years. So I don't know what my problem is. :-)

It could be worse. Her last name could be "Back."

Dental Student? A. he's from Texas (automatic +) B. he's got that Heath Ledger thang goin' on there... I think I will definitely be enjoying this season! ;-)

Hey, I was on vacation and missed contributing to the first episode's posts. Which girl was hurling? Hope it wasn't Erin. Weren't the other show's first episodes two hours long? I can see why John got the boot, but they could've done a better job of show why -- especially since fat black chick should have gone first -- hands down. What a duffus.
To: stands2reason
She will probably be gone fairly soon. The "natural leaders" are the first ones picked off unless they have some unusual skill to help the tribe and sometimes even then. They try to boss every one else around and are vocal about their likes and dislikes. This does not fly in the Survivor universe. Not when you can easily get rid of them.

How about Rob? He's not quite as bad as last year's Rob but he seems to be a guy who'll stick around only because of his strength. And what was up with them building a floor first?
To: baseballfanjm
what was up with them building a floor first? I wish we'd seen the planning phase of that, because it shows unusual foresight for this show. The ground is uncomfortable - if you can do it, make a floor first, it'll be well worth it in the long run, and they're going to be there for some time (they hope).

It is actually quite smart. A bamboo platform (with a roof) is the best way of staying dry in that kind of climate. Even without the roof it drains dry quickly and the air circulating underneath will help dry it even faster.
With a floorless shelter they would be sleeping in the mud. If it is anything like the jungles I have known the ground never really dries out in the rainy season.
I think this was in the rainy season so they are going to get rained on a lot. This also helps to keep the creepy-crawlies off you while you are sleeping.
If the other team is smart they will set up a rain water collection system and not have to make the long treck for water so often.
