Survivor V kicks off on Thursday September 19th, and since a lot of us Freepers had fun speculating on Marquesas, I thought it would be fun to start a thread on the upcoming series.
The bios are out, which you can check out here, and there's already been scandal associated with two of the castaways.
First there's Brian, an actor/used car salesman, who neglected to tell the show that he had a few "blue" movies in his past. They cast a porn star!
Then there's Tonya. Her story could have a lasting impact on the outcome of the show. Shortly before filming came to an end, Tonya's father back in Tennessee was tragically killed in a car accident. Reports are that she was immediately evacuated from the island.
If Tonya was one of the first 7 people ejected from the show, then her departure would have no impact on the outcome. However, if she made it past the merger and either onto the jury or in the final two, then that could mean one less vote in the final two, or something even stranger. Only time will tell.
Robb has got to go.
I can't believe that no one is commenting on the skinny dipping. Hey, let's get naked on the first night. Check me out, don't vote THESE out!

"Dude! Look at my hands!"
Indeed! #119 triggered a "NEW POST" to me.
...pretty far down on the ping list...
Doesn't bother me at all - just as long as I have a place at the table.
I had John pegged as an early bootee, but I think it was just dumb to get rid of him first. Ghandia's problems aside, I actually would have voted for Jan. She didn't really have to do too much in the challenge last night, but sooner or later, they're gonna be in a foot race, and I doubt she'll be able to keep up. It's mean, but you have to get rid of the least fit first. John, while being somewhat bossy, is at least in good physical shape, and could have gone on to help them win some challenges. They were dumb to vote him off.
I agree. She's the only reason they were put in the position of tribal council. But what really got me was how brash and arrogant she was at first, and then how quickly she resorted to tears to generate sympathy. And they fell for it. As far as voting off the pastor goes, what else would one expect from CBS?

BTW, if you missed last night's show and didn't get a chance to record it take heart! SeeBS will be broadcasting a repeat of the show, tomorrow night (Saturday) at 8PM!
OK, final last chance!
.
Well, was anybody surprised by last nights change in how the tribes are determined? I for one, thought it was pretty cool! Although Jan was a bit of a ditsy airhead with some of her picks. Anyway, for those who might have missed it, here is:
Jeff P. starts out leading our band of intrepid castaways through a tribal village, and down to the beach, where everyone climbs into a couple of motor powered longboats and sets off for their island. Jeff meanwhile does his voice-over, informing everyone where they are. (Duh! In Thailand!) And after the obligatory picturesque photo shots of white sandy beaches, pounding waves, towering cliffs, and green tree covered mountains, his voice-over then proceeds to inform us that the tribes will have to deal with the intense heat and humidity, along with the monsoons and two particularly nasty looking snakes. (No, not Jeff P. and Mark Burnett! Im talking real snakes!) The King Cobra and the Reticulated Python.
Anyway, the longboats pull up to a deserted beach and Jeff has the castaways take a seat on some stumps planted in the ground. Leading up to the Ladies on the left, Men on the right speech.
He then gives each of them a chance to introduce themselves by stating their name, age, and occupation. But, adds that if this does not fit into their strategy, they can tell as little as they like. One by one each gives up what they want. When it comes to Ken Stafford, he gets a round of applause from the rest of the castaways when he reveals that he is a New York Police Officer. That is followed by Brian informing everyone that he is in the high line world of used car sales.: (This is met with snickers from the ladies! Pull in the claws girls!)
Finally Jeff informs them that elders here in Thailand are revered and in keeping with that tradition, asks the two eldest members of the castaways (Jake and Jan) to come forward. He then informs them that these two will pick their tribes colors (by picking a buff) and in doing so will also pick which beach the tribe will occupy. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. He then adds, The only thing I can tell you is this one (red buff) has a sunrise and this one (purple buff) has a sunset. Jake picks the purple and Jan gets the Red.
Right away, everyone starts thinking that its gonna be the guys against the gals, which leads to Ghandias comment of how We are gonna kick their butts. However, Jeff informs them of their error and states that the two elders will in fact pick their tribes. Jan starts first by picking Ted, followed by Jake selecting Stephanie. Back and forth until all are selected as follows:
Jeff then gives each team a boat with minimal supplies, and sends them on their merry way. Sook Jai is the first to get under way and wind up paddling their boat BACKWARDS! (So much for youthful intelligence.) While Chuay Gahn realizes right away that this is not a race and first turns the boat around. John figures out that none of them has ever paddled a boat before and tries to get the tribe to paddle in sync. All this accomplishes is getting him labeled as a pushy wanna-be leader and their first potential bootie!
Sook Jai arrives at their beach to find that they have NO shelter and NO food (they do find out that they have a mango tree, but no mangos) but their water source is just 100 yards away from camp. Right away, instead of deciding who is gonna do what, and how they are gonna set up camp, everybody starts doing their own thing with much enthusiasm, which results in nothing getting done. (Robb starts swinging from vines and doing nothing but making a monkey out of himself.)
Chuay Gahn arrives at their beach to find that they have shelter in the form of a natural cave, food in the form of shellfish and coconuts, but their water source is quite a swim and hike away. Everyone sets about gathering food and trying to come up with some sort of bedding. In general, this tribe shows its maturity and experience much more than the Sook Jai bunch of kids.
Night falls on our band of intrepid castaways and we find that Stephanie has no inhibitions what so ever, as she strips down and goes skinny-dipping in the ocean. (note to self: If it turns out that the other websites out in cyber land are correct and Stephanie is a lesbian, Im gonna be EXTREAMLY disappointed!)
The next day shows more of the rift forming between the kids at Sook Jai (Robb makes a complete Clymer of himself, but whats new!) Anyway, each team spends the day trying to get organized and tries to come together as a family/team. In short, Chuay Gahn succeeds (even with a small joke by John that Ghandia doesnt appreciate) while Sook Jai fails miserably! (And yes, Robb continues to make a complete A$$ of himself.)
Day three brings the call to their first immunity challenge. The tribes meet Jeff at a floating crate where he informs them that they will race around the island, stopping at three points along the way where they will have to complete a certain task, retrieve a flag, and continue on. The first tribe to finish the race and make it back to the starting point will win immunity. And true to form the immunity idol deserves its moniker as The Ugly Idol.
Jeff starts the race and Chuay Gahn gets off to an early lead (guess Johns paddling lessons paid off!) Their lead grows after both the first and second tasks are completed. However, disaster strikes! Ghandia is selected to complete the third task and she falters, unable to figure out the slide puzzle, she gets more and more frustrated, which allows Sook Jai to catch up and take the lead.
In the end, its Sook Jai winning the Ugly Idol and immunity.
At tribal council, the vote is one vote for Ghandia, one vote for Clay, and six votes for John.
Bub-Bye John.
Well, thats it for this week. Tune in next week for the continuing saga of Survivor Thailand!
Ill get off my soapbox now,
Enjoy,
Thanks, Cuz!
Hmmm, maybe, but I don't think so. Despite Ghandia's screwup, I think that tribe seems to have everything much more together. They appear to work together well, just witness how quickly they got through the immunity challenge - they had a huge lead going into that last puzzle. Now, they might continue to screw up, but I'm inclined to doubt it. Also, I'd point out that their ability to sew up a 5 person alliance, and to do so quietly, speaks highly for their ability to work together.
On the other hand, the S tribe, despite being younger and in better physical shape, appears unwilling to work together at all. They were fighting about the work early on, and the previews indicate it will get worse. They seem disorganized, and they're already getting hungry. I'd be willing to bet on Chewing Gum for now.
Next week - Chewing Gum wins immunity, Robb is out.
