Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
Probably. Ah the bliss of such delusion... wish I knew what that was, then maybe life wouldn't hurt so much.
Bush made it clear during the election that he didn't need, nor want, the support or advice of conservatives. He's got his own agenda and it is in direct contradiction to the the values I hold dear. That is why I will not support him.
The problem is not Bush -- the problem is the electorate.
The solution is not to dilute the current concentration of freedom lovers in the R party -- the solution is to keep it concentrated.
The solution is not to move away from the non-freedom lovers in the R party -- the solution is to interact and change these non-freedom lovers in the R party and then to change the general electorate with the powers and organization of the R party.
The politicians will follow...
Heh-heh-heh. There you go again. Doing the very thing you are accusing. What a classic. So, tell me about how GW Bush eliminated the Department of Education. Or, perhaps you could explain how the Republican controlled congress banned abortion. Wait, tell me about how the Bush administration is shrinking the federal government and returning power to the states. There's just so many wonderful acheivements you could tell me about -- if only your boys had actually achieved them rather than running at light speed in the other direction.
You already said that and I explained why I disagree. To be honest, there was a time when I was politically immature and believed exactly as you are advocating. Eventually I realized that it was not realistic. The party drives the boat and for the last few years it has demonstrated total disregard for the sentiment of the electorate. They look us in the eye and stab us in the heart -- knowing full well that they can still count on our support come election day.
Thanks for continuing to demonstrate your intellectual bankruptcy. :-) You never fail to provide.
You do seem quite obsessed with what to write next, to me, whilst utterly ignoring whatever I post. Ergo, post away, kiddo ; everyone will just sit back and laygh at your banal, inane, unclever, dumbed down posts.
Why not attempt to explain, here, in cogent English , how Congress , alone, can overturn something such as legal abortion, how long that would take ( considering the makeup of both Houses ), and the fact that ( hint, hint ) the previous president was sent a Bill, that outlawed partial birth abortion and vetoed it. Thatnks for trying to participate; to bad you are incapable of doing so with any worth whatsoever. :-)
You believe the R party disregards the sentiment of the electorate -- I beleive it gives the electorate what it wants minus a sliiigth nod to it's base.
If I may be quite frank -- and frankly speaking I am -- I was a third party advocate when I was a kid -- you are a third party advocate now.
Exactly my point. Why is it when the word libertarian is mentioned, I immediately have visions of a dogmatic, opininated anti law, anti government, porn and drug promoter, hateful, disrespectful, inconsiderate, pompous person who believes in tearing down any conservative gains the GOP makes? I almost think - "Oh no, watch out - I will be called stupid, ignorant, asked hateful questions."
The libertarian rhetoric I have come in contact with through FreeRepublic, Liberty Post and all the other anti sites does not reflect well on Libertarians.
It sounds more intelligent than DU but appears rather mean-spirited and hateful to me.
Of course, you and some others do not fit that description. Just the preponderence of it forms that impression.
Wonder all you like, but you really shouldn't make the mistake of calling yourself a conservative as long as you advocate the direct opposite of conservative principles. Capisca?
