Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
The crowd had the stupid permits allowing them to be where they were. They were behind the fence that the police established. I don't like the stupid bastards either, but in this case I see no evidence that the crowd did anything that justified an assault by the police.
Perhaps you should study further the tactics of this Tre arrow crowd. Confrontation for the sake of publicity IS the goal. And if confrontation is not occuring fast enough for these idiots....they will escalate the situation for the cameras.
Yes, that is their MO. However, in this case, that is not how it went down. You live here. You can address this on the level of facts, rather than emotion. I doubt you bothered, but I went down to Klamath Falls last summer to stand with the farmers against the feds. The farmers stood toe-to-toe with the jack-boots that were brought in from San Francisco. They didn't jump when the feds gave them orders because the feds had no authority to give the orders they did. Would you be cheering if they had detonated the CS bombs that were deployed on the perimeter? Would you have cheered if the families who were pleading for their water had been fired upon with rubber bullets? If not, then you best think about the position you are taking here. They are one in the same.
I didn't think so. Which leaves me to wonder -- what evidence are you going to provide -- other than your feelings and emotions?

It came from your own words. You went off on the protesters and indicated that you were glad they got the whoopin they did, just because you don't like them. That's an emotional response. It is certainly not a principled or reasoned position.

I bring it up because it is obvious that you were not there. The fact that I was does not reflect on me, other than the fact that I had the experience of standing in the shoes of the person who is opposing government policy and is one jack-boot order away from getting stomped for doing it. You sit at home and watch TV and think you know what's going on. Well, armchair quarterbacking is pretty damned thin. You can cheer for head busting because you know you'll never have the guts to stand on the line and tell the government that it is wrong.
But.......back to the issue at hand. I don't take kindly to some hysterical newsie reporting on camera that ------GASP-------the cops BACKED her into a McDonalds.......and she was THIS close to being accosted by said cops. The newsies on the scene inflamed the situation for the sake of CREATING news. And you are incorrect....the crowd did NOT stay behind the fences.
No protester crossed the fence prior to the attack by the police. After the assault started, things went to shit.
I do NOT support civil disobedience just for the sake of cop-bashing.
Nor do I. However, the point here is that there was NO CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE in play at the point in time when the police initiated the assault. Besides that, telling the truth is hardly cop-bashing.
I have much more respect for LE then it appears you do and do NOT paint all with the 'broad brush' of "jack-booted thugs". So we should probably drop this discussion as we are NOT going to agree.
Law enforcement is only deserving of respect when they earn it. When they put on black riot suits with black masks and no identification so that they can run a military assault on the crowd without risk of being ID'ed, they are jack-boots. Every single one that participates as well as the corrupt politicians that order them. They are defined by their actions. If they don't wish to be jack-boots, then they best not fulfill the role. And, if it is jack-boot operations that you respect, then I have no respect for you. I'm sure you and Auntie Vera will get along just fine.
