Giving priority to what is most important, I have decided to swallow my pride. I had a dustup with a moderator. I lost. Though I think the moderators need a tuneup they ain't so bad really. I depend on them to keep this site from becomming a free for all whacko hate site. I used to push the abuse button quite frequently on my fave undesirables ... anti-semite, haters. I notice they're a bit thin around here lately.
It is most important that Free Republic live and thrive. It is less important that I get things my way around here. Though I do not agree completely with the proposition that it is Jim's site and he can do with it what he damn will pleases ... It's as much our site, collectively, as it is his now. Perhaps Jim does ride herd a bit too hard on this creation he gave birth to. Fact is I don't know. I simply don't have enough information.
But it is a given that FR is the best there is at what it does. If it's only my morning paper and a place to exercise my verbal skills ... it's worth supporting. Now is the time for all level headed thinking FReepers to come to the aid of our wounded friend ... Free Republic.
There is a degree of the soap opera in reading these flaming wars - we get addicted. But, we are hurting people and hurting ourselves as others see us being ill-tempered, mean-spirited, petty and vindictive to our fellow posters.

I'll not defend the leftist tree-hugger hippie punks, but I will defend the truth. They did not throw rocks at the motorcade. They were never even close to the motorcade. For crying out loud, the SS is not that incompetent. They were behind the fence that was established and that was defined by the permit they were issued by the city. Some of the big money donors didn't like the fact that they had to look at them to enter the building, so they complained and the authorities decided that they would change the barrier lines right in the middle of it. They ordered the crowd to move back, but people ignored it because they were already behind the barriers and were not encroaching on the established limits. The police decided they weren't getting the hop-to response they wanted, so they started hosing the crowd down with pepper spray. Then they tried to drive two car loads of reserves right through the crowd they had just sprayed. Doh! Go figure that the people you've just assaulted are going to be pissed. They started kicking the cars that were barging into the heart of the crowd and that's when they opened up with the rubber bullets. The riot was on.
Who's to blame? Take your pick. At least this time it does not appear to have been the anarchist black maskers who instigated the violence. I'm sure they were there, but the donnybrook was initiated by the police this time.
Frankly, I don't shed many tears for our local communists, but the thing to bear in mind is that these are the exact same tactics that some future administration is going to use on constitutionalists. Klamath will not go down like it did last year, ever again. The freepers who were upset that the SS herded them out of Bill Clinton's view and behind barbed wire in an alley will think that was just peachy after they've been the target of our new and improved crowd control tactics.
Actually, those impressions were not gained as a result of the posts of libertarians, but rather from the posts of their enemies. Those are the same unfounded and spurious accusations that are always thrown out when someone doesn't want to address the issues, but would rather deflect the discussion and put the other person on the defensive.
It is the same tactic that the Republican (Mannix) candidate for governor in Oregon is trying to use on his Libertarian (Cox) opponent. Cox did a fine job of sidestepping the childish attacks and making Mannix look like the fool he is.

No, as has been pointed out repeatedly, they do not enable it. Those who support a government welfare safety net enable it. Libertarians simply refuse to violate the rights of others. They refuse to circumvent the natural consequences and learning processes that reality provides. Libertarians enable justice. Each person gets rewarded and/or punished by the natural consequences of their choices.

Try reading The Oregonian, The Stateman Journal, The Register Guard, FOX News PDX, Willamette Week, Portland Tribune, KGW, KOIN, KATU-2 (who had a reporter get wiped out by the police), and yes, even watch the video shot by indymedia for the protester's perspective. Each source covered it with their own reporters and from their own perspective. The local police and the local republican party have made statements to the media. Local (all conservative) talk show hosts have discussed it at length and had guests that were attendees of the fund raiser.
Admit it CJ. You were wrong. The protesters did not throw rocks at the presidential motorcade. If they had, the SS would not have been firing rubber bullets at them from their sniper posts on the roof tops. The protesters never came near Bush and you know that the accusation is patently absurd.
