I'm in the Coachella Valley of SoKal - definite rattler country; I keep a hoe outside the door, for decapitation purposes, since snakies like to get up by walls and doorsteps if they've wandered away from their turf.

Maybe it's one of those Chinese snake fish. They're fleeing the East Coast. Too many anglers are on to them.
