This is today's update from Timothy Snodgrass, the man who saw the dream or vision of the mid-west being cut in half and also a 9+ earthquake on the west coast.  Check that link in the next few days for more as he updates it.  I am posting this merely as a reporter.  Each person should test every spirit and exercise his own discernment:

Evidently you need to take in less spirit and switch to beer or something less strong. Yikes! Where exactly in the world would a 9.0+ earthquake cause less damage? And since when did biblical prophesies start including the Richter scale?

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as snotty. I have since read the thread and realize you are talking about dreams, not biblical prophesies. Anyway, color me cynical.

I don't know if that is a "real" vision or not. However, I am not the only one who's been looking for California to have "the big one". I am also not the only one to be looking for a recurrence of the earthquake that made the Mississippi River flow backward. So a "prophecy" of this nature is kinda safe.

Everything is going to come to pass as we read in Revelation. The United States will not escape the destruction. In fact, I don't even think we'll be here for the final wrapup - due to earthquakes/volcanoes/etc.

Thanks for the update. A disturbing development if this does come to pass. I notice he leaves himself an out by saying the angels can prevent the quake.....so if nothing happens Tim can say "well, the angels prevented it." I also wonder just what would be needed in order to cause the quake to be prevented.

However, I am trying to keep an open mind. If a 9.0 quake happens out west, it will make Sept. 11 look like peanuts. Needless to say, we need to pray this doesn't happen. The U.S. hasn't had a real quake in quite a long time, so I would say we are getting disconcertingly overdue.....

I was much impressed with Tim's update--primarily because his sense of the prophetic etc. matched my own and included a fair amount ofhumility.

I also happen to have a witness to the essence, at least, of his update.

It appears Mr. Snodgrass has come upon the (almost) perfect vision. If a 9.0+ quake happens here before 12/31/02, his vision is right. If we don't have a 9.0+ quake, that means the three angels interceded on our behalf and his vision is right. In other words: Heads I win, tails you lose.

Alas, there's one tiny mistake he made in his deciphering of his vision: 9.0+ quakes very rarely occur. Even quakes above ~8.2 or so rarely happen more than once a year; 9.0+ ones only happen (very roughly) once every 50 years or so somewhere around the world. And there have been only two 9.0 quakes in recorded American history, and both of those were in Alaska. The biggest quake evers to hit the US were in New Madrid, and those were in 1811 and 1812. So if some 9.0+ quake does hit somewhere in the next four months, then he's one heck of a prophet. And if one hits North or South America before 12/31, he's probably got Jesus on speed-dial.

I've been following this thread over the weeks and was surprised that there was no update now that the end of the year has passed. This thread was hoppin' back then- started to remind me of Y2K. I wonder if there are any comments now. I went to the prophet's website and found no mention of this mega earthquake. I did find this:

Judging Prophecies

In judging between true and false prophecies, many fall into the same common pitfall: Underestimation of God's grace and omnipotence. In 2 Kings 20:1, the prophet Isaiah told King Hezekiah: "Get your house in order, you are going to die; you are not going to recover". Should have Isaiah articulated his prophecy differently, or did he really hear from God? I believe he heard from God. But note that by 2 Kings 20:5, God had already changed his mind because of his loving kindness and mercy towards King Hezekiah, and his omnipotence to intervene in a terminal situation. King Hezekiah was healed, and given another 15-years of life. In judging whether a prophetic word is true or false you must not only discern the prophecy, but also discern the heart of God during the progression and resolve of the word at its conclusion.

This guy is full of it. We all know what defines a false prophet. What he says now could apply to any prophecy that doesn't come to pass- "oh you have to discern the heart of God to understand why he changed his mind". As if the false prophet is the only priveledged one to "discern the heart of God".

Rom 11:33-34
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?

Nobody "discerns" the heart of God. Prophets are humble messengers relaying the word of the Lord. As long as there have been prophets, there have been false prophets seeking glory for themselves. Also, look at the example that Mr. Snodgrass gives with King Hezekiah:

II Ki 20:1-11
1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
7 And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.
8 And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

Here was an awesome sign that all could see- plus repentance- plus an explanation through the prophet from God. I fear that the itching ears work both ways- not just crying peace, but false prophets crying wolf so often that when the Lord really does speak to his people of coming judgement, none will listen. Any comments?
