The greatest tear-jerk movies of all time?

In a completely unrelated thread, I recently got into a brief discussion with someone about tear-jerk movies.
I'm an absolute sucker for animal movies myself. _Where the Red Fern Grows_, Homeward Bound_ etc. Someone recommended _The Dog from Flanders_, but I'm not sure I could stand to watch it.
Anyway, my daughter's 22nd b'day is coming up. She has an intereset in film, and I've been thinking about getting her a selection of tear-jerk movies. Last year I got her a Leatherman, so this would seem to offset. Send her a box of those along with some Kleenex.
Any suggestions?

Spartacus ... I've watched it twenty times, and I still get choked up in the final scenes.

My husband just mentioned "The Iron Giant" - I cried throught the end of it.
It's animated, but still good in a lot of ways.

throught and through, too

"A.I."
I cried the whole time I watched it.
Oh, you mean movies that make me sad and cry.
Nevermind, I thought you meant movies that that were too painful to watch.

" NOW VOYAGER ", " DARK VICTORY ", any movie version ( PBS sells the tapes ) of " La Boheme " , " CAMILE ", " MADAME BOVARY " , and the silent " OUR DANCING DAUGHTERS ", with a beautiful, very young Joan Crawford. All are at least " three hanky " movies. Oldies, no animals, but goodies !

"Imitation of Life." An excellent movie. I've watched it every chance I got, and still cry my eyes out at the end. Mahalia Jackson was wonderful in that movie. I can't remember the name of the girl who played her daughter, though. Can you?

You don't know boo-hoos and sobs, you haven't cried out loud at a movie, till you've seen
TILL WE MEET AGAIN,
made in the late 30s, I think....
starring George Brent and Merle Oberon.
It's a love story to end all love stories.
For maximum tear flow, watch it on New Year's Eve.
If you love tear-jerkers, you will love this one...I guarantee!

After googling, I discover there are more than a few movies titled Till We Meet Again. Accept no substitutes.

The Subject Was Roses A wonderful flick. It's been years but I remember it as painful to watch. I put A Trip to Bountiful in the same boat. Also thought A River Runs Through It was a tear-jerker.
A quick story about Forrest Gump
I enjoyed the movie for its music and especially the Nam combat scene. It seemed to effect people in many different ways. I saw it twice, early on, in packed theaters.
Sitting next to me, on my second trip, was a couple whose two older teenage daughters had to sit in front of them. At about the time Jennaaaay! told Forrest that he was a father, the gentleman next to me not only cried, he also put his head in his lap and sobbed uncontrollably. As far as I know, he never did come up for air. The wife and daughters was still comforting him as the movie ended and the theater emptied.
