Okay, I'm going to throw something new out here. :)

Recall this article from yesterday and the day before:

Child-Porn Suspect Prefers to Stay in Jail
Thursday, August 15, 2002

BY ASHLEY BROUGHTON
THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

An Orem photographer charged with making and distributing child pornography believes it is "in his best interest" to stay in the Salt Lake County Jail, his defense attorney said at a federal court hearing Wednesday.

Attorney Wendy Lewis declined to elaborate on her client's reasons for wanting to stay in jail.

Joseph Paul Durborow, 41, is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of receipt and distribution of pornographic images of a 10-year-old girl.

Durborow, who operated Joseph Paul Photography out of his home, allegedly admitted making the image, which matched a nonpornographic photograph of the same child found on his Web site, court documents said.

Caseworkers for the state Division of Child and Family Services, meanwhile, began interviewing Durborow's wife and children, which could take several days, said Carol Sisco, spokeswoman for DCFS.

The Durborows have 12 children, 11 of whom were adopted through a private agency, she said. The couple served as guardians for the remaining child. Ten of the children still live in the home, she said, and the two others are adults.

Authorities were led to Durborow as part of the "Operation Hamlet" global child pornography investigation. Prosecutors have said Durborow admitted secretly videotaping girls who modeled for him as they were changing their clothing, then creating still images and distributing them on the Internet.

The U.S. Attorney's Office and Orem police say they have received calls from worried parents whose children were photographed by Durborow.

"We're able to identify a number of children who were likely involved," Orem police Lt. Doug Edwards said Tuesday.

The Joseph Paul Photography Web site was inaccessible as of Tuesday. An earlier search of the site showed it highlighted "showcased models" and offered scores of photographs of them for sale.

Tamara Palomin's daughter was not one of Durborow's models but was photographed by him. Now Palomin, a former Orem resident living in Vancouver, Wash., is concerned about how material from that photo session is being used.

"I have seen the skills this man has for doctoring up photography and rearranging pictures," Palomin wrote Wednesday in an e-mail to The Salt Lake Tribune. "The man knew what he was doing with digital photography and had quite a large amount of pictures of my daughter that I had not known he had taken while we were doing photo shoots with him."

Her daughter is under 14, the cutoff age for Durborow's business, according to his Web site.

Durborow's neighbors described him as a good neighbor and father.

"He does go around asking people to take pictures of their kids, because he asked my daughter and she never did," said neighbor Margaret Palmer.

The U.S. Attorney's Office has said it expects to bring additional charges and plans to present its case to a grand jury on Wednesday.

Then, I found this:

And, from the Wasatch Camera Club Photo Competition, both Joseph Paul Durburow, and a person by the name of "Mary Beesley," participated. Is this Mary Beesley the 16 year old daughter of the Beesley family that lives across the street from the Smart family? Is this just a coincidence, or, did this photographer perhaps see Elizabeth somewhere? Durburow is 41, I wonder what he looks like?

Tom Smart is also a photographer. He may know this Durborow fellow through his photography job.

I don't know what he looks like but I can imagine why he wants to stay in jail. I think he fears vigilante justice or as we say in Wyoming, "the hanging tree".
