AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 570) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | August 13, 2002 | All of Us

We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

The Justice Department has annouced that, beginning September 11, 2002, thousands of foreign visitors, mostly from Mideast and Arab countries, will be fingerprinted and photographed at the border.

Back in June, it is now being revealed, Martha Stewart approached a House panel through an aide. She asked the Panel to issue a statement clearing her. The spokesman for the House Energy and Commerce Committee said they were "stunned."

There is a report circulating on Drudge that says the United States will, if necessary, seize Arab airports by force to allow an offensive against Iraq. Diplomatic sources, according to the Drudge report, say that Arab countries should take America's war preparations very seriously.

A high-ranking Administration official has confirmed the United States received reports yesterday from an unnamed foreign government that Al Qa'eda was planning to hit major United States targets. Some locations suggested were the Golden Gate Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge, and a "major landmark" in Chicago. The official was careful to point out these were not confirmed "targets" but rather possibilities.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Now if people would only READ more. The "30 second sound byte" is in my opinion not only playing to the lowest common denominator, but destroying the print media as well as the depth of thought in our society.

I am sorry about the drought. I remember when we had one about 15 years ago...corn drying up in the field. I can still remember when it finally rained that summer and we all stood out on the porch and watched the rain.

I am glad to see the rain here, as in the last month we have only had one inch. That is pretty dry for this part of the country.

The books dare the reader to be worthy of the characters.

Of all the comments I've heard/read about the books, this has just moved to the top of the list as my favorite.

Tolkein's work has withstood the test of time and is the foundation upon which the Fantasy genre has been built.

Cute Donkey joke!

Here's one that was sent to me yesterday for you to enjoy:

Dead Donkey

A city boy, Kenny, moved to the country and bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the donkey died."

Kenny replied, "Well then, just give me my money back."
The farmer said,"Can't do that. I went and spent it already."

Kenny said, "OK then, just unload the donkey."
The farmer asked, "What ya gonna do with him?"
Kenny said, "I'm going to raffle him off."

Farmer, " You can't raffle off a dead donkey!"
Kenny, "Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he is dead."

A month later the farmer met up with Kenny and asked, "What happened with that dead donkey?"

Kenny, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.00."
Farmer, "Didn't anyone complain?"
Kenny, " Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back."

Kenny grew up and eventually became the chairman of Enron.

How right you are, nearly every work of fantasy of the last 50 years from Harry Potter to Star Wars is derivitive of Tolkien!

Very true.

I've seen refrences to places, names, etc. from the trilogy popping up across a broad spectrum of Adventure/Fiction books that I've read over the years.

There are those who would complain that these are little more than rip offs of Tolkien, but I view it more as a testament to his work rather than a rip off...

Whew, phase 1 of the software acceptance testing I participated in today is over.

Tomorrow, phase 2 - but that will only take an hour or two.

On another note, I would be interested in ML's critical opinion of the movie soundtrack. (I just can't get parts of it out of my head -LOL)

YOu know, I can't remember a note of the melody to the soundtrack of thatmovie. And I LOVED the movie, I must be stressed not to be able to remember music!

Species, could you hum a few bars for me?

"could you hum a few bars for me"

Sorry, I can't carry a tune for anything. (I'm the one that everyone in church turns around and gives funny looks to during the hymms) - LOL

Here is an interesting review of the soundtrack that I found. It breaks down the songs pretty well:

Lord of the Rings Soundtrack

HOB - Pop the soundtrack in...it will help reduce the stress!
