With the FBI involved, we cannot be certain that Ricci isn't being railroaded.

I hope you don't want me to give you a run-down on past performances.

No need to mention the problems in the FBI. They do sometimes get it right though.

Where is the source that states that the perp wore a mask?

The article is from the Washington Post on June 7th. I don't have the original link, but it appears at http://peligro.com/ElizabethSmart.htm

Where is the source that stated, that when Ricci returned the Jeep to the shop, all of the windows were rolled down?

This was stated my Moul in the Ashley Banfield interview on MSNBC.

So, you see, sandude, often, quite often, the best & the brightest get shoved in the background, in order for the kingdom builders to maintain their lofty positions.

No doubt that this goes on and it is unfortunate. I like to believe that this is the exception rather than the rule. We always hear about the cases where serious gaffs are made. There are many more cases that are handled with professionalism that get no media coverage.

How many times have you refused to accept "published" information?

I accept most published reports quoting the authorities or witness interviews such as Moul from credible sources. You have never seen me refute such a source. Sounds like you have a selective memory.

I confess to feeling somewhat conflicted when I posted on the threads started by Jolly Green. We all benefited from his actions, and I always felt that I was an ill-mannered guest with respect to his position as host of the thread. It was at times inhibiting.

Now, I feel much more comfortable in stating my opinions, as they are in line with most people on this thread who believe that Jolly Green is totally out of line and beyond credibility and unworthy of discourse.

Jolly Green has a long way to go before he can convince the rest of us that his maniacal ravings are worthy of notice much less response from rational people.

I'm not saying that SLC Police are bad. I'm sure they are much like any other police force, just more politically bent towards the Mormon church because it's influence is so great in SLC. I've read that 70% of SLC is Mormon. Bias. The church indirectly pays their paychecks, so of course there would be an influence.

Whatever gave you this idea? When I was a very small boy there was a real law and order police chief in Salt Lake who was also a well known Mormon. The press hounded him out of office. Anyone in Salt Lake City that ran on a platform that openly supported the Mormon church would have absolutely no chance of getting elected. I'm not trying to suggest that the church has no influence. Any large religious organization would, no matter where you were in America. From what I can see their influence is mainly in the area's of keeping pornography and such influences out of the city. I might add that they are not completely successful in this either.

You are totally discredited on this thread. Trust me, you do not want there to be a referendum on the issue of "Is Jolly Green worth even responding to or not?"

Just the kind of response we could expect from a sophomoric twit like yourself. I'm sure the you and other logic-challenged posters could be entertained for several days by such a question. You might be surprised by my defenders. This would not be the first time the logic-challenged on this these threads ganged up on Jolly Green.

While Jolly can be quite rude, he does have an intense interest in the known facts and the use of good logic and reasoning. I'm afraid most of you simply ignore his posts because of his bad behaviour. While I object to his rudeness, I embrace his desire to get to the facts in this matter.

The perps had at least a two hour head start on LE. That gave them plenty of time to secure Elizabeth away before the alarm was sounded.

Yes, I agree with this!

The bottom line though is that it was the middle of the night, without a vehicle description to go on LE would have been severly hampered.

Yes, LE said that they left "on foot."

Elizabeth should never have gone quietly and that is the lesson that we can all teach our children. You are absolutely correct!

My point in all of this is that even if LE had done everything perfectly, Elizabeth would probably still be gone.

I agree, and at least you are NOT rude and listen to what others have to say! :) But, I still think that LE messed up, maybe thinking that they were doing the right thing...but, they messed up and they did mislead the public. Not to mention neighbors and well-meaning friends destroying possible evidence! I'm not going to harp on this anymore, but didn't anybody learn anything from the Jon-Benet Ramsey case?

(My ! are not meant to be rude...just my frustration, and are not meant to be taken personally.)

I agree that mistakes were made and LE did mislead the public, although I don't think they purposely did this. I'm sure they would handle it differently if they had it to do over again. As far as having their neighbors come into the house, that was a potential tragic mistake as far as LE building a case. I look at a family that is very busy raising active teenage children and I suspect they paid very little attention to the Jon-Bonet Ramsey case. They were hopelessly naive and have received a very painful lesson about the cold cruel world.

You post what you want, Iwo! I have no problem with anybody here, but rudeness is never acceptable, and that doesn't mean you.

I fall into the "rude" category in the eyes of many on these threads from the Logic-Free zone. Things were real nasty around here about a month ago. Some entire threads were pulled for outrageous bashing of the Church and the Smarts. Other threads had posts yanked and some posters were banned. Things are relatively civil around here now by comparison, though several of the key chruch/Smart bashers are still around. I make no apologies for taking them to task and trying to get them to provide credible sources/evidence for their outlandish theories, which very few have even attempted.

You are totally discredited on this thread.

Not totally. Perhaps in the category of grace and charm, Jolly is right up there with his hero Don Rickles. But discredited? Not for his thinking. His thinking cuts through the fantasy and usually keeps us focused on the facts. For that he is valued.

You are, Sir, a model of civility. The populus of this thread has proven itself capable of accepting all manner of divergent opinions if they are stated within certain bounds of good manners and a good-natured and well-intentioned desire to move closer to the truth.

Jolly Green's rude and unnecessarily abusive behavior has led him to become unwelcome on these threads. I hope that you or others who value his input will urge him to mend his ways so that whatever he has to contribute (and I am unwilling to believe that he has nothing to contribute) will be given the consideration that it is due.

Until then, he's on my DNR (do not respond -- actually do not resuscitate -- list.

It's difficult to understand how you can say LE didn't purposely mislead the public. Of course they did. That's part of investigative work, not at all unusual.

What they did wrong was to ignore ordinary procedure, the composite (believe it or not, Boylan made a sensational drawing of the Unibomber - mask included). They should have told Tom Smart to shut his trap on the subject of a composite!

But, then, when we turn to all the calling of family, friends, neighbors - before they got around to thinking about 9-11, this is where my suspicions are aroused.

Lois' revelation weeks later, that MK had recognized the voice, is an indication that Lois wants the kidnapper to know that they know who he is.

I'm sure you will be only too happy to tell us how you, Boylan or anyone else could construct a composite out of thin air. The following quote is included in the link below:

The younger girl has not been able to clearly describe the man, telling police only that the kidnapper carried a small black gun and was about 5-foot-8, white, with dark hair, and dressed in a tan denim-type jacket and white baseball cap.

Still no key leads; vigil held

The Smarts called 911 before they called neighbors. I posted the sources a few days ago, it was in a press conference by Chief Rick Dinse who said that the first call went to the SLPD at 4:01 am. And like sandude said above, it was a big mistake to let the neighbors in the house before the police arrived. I also heard the Smarts say that they called the SLPD first, and that phone records could be checked.
