Fox News : Jeb Bush loses 532 children through DCS in Florida
Fox News (Tonight)
Posted on 08/12/2002 7:33:45 PM PDT by Scythian
The number of missing children was 1,100 now it's 532. Fox news tracked many of them down in hours and DCS has been trying for years. I'm outraged, I'm a replublican but I'd throw Jeb Bush out of Florida on his ass, what a loser.

I agree.
Furthermore, I think we should just shut down Free-Republic and throw JR in jail. Since it is his website that posts such as yours appear on, he is obviously responsible for spreading such idiotic logic.....

That's ridiculous. I wonder what other states' stats look like. I doubt Florida is the only state that can't keep track of children.

Child protective services, from state to state is a long entrenched bureaucracy, abounding in self interests. We should be happy it's coming out.
They begin a state by state check, and I am sure they will find Florida is the tip of the iceberg. Child protective services, nationwide, are mainly to serve themselves, rather than children.

Sure, how many years now has this been a problem in Florida? What could be more important that defending and protecting this helpless ones, golf, getting your brother elected, keeping the state for the electorial votes, he makes me sick.

Your blaming a Govenor (who is nothing more than an administrator) for not keeping track of all children in the DCS database? Please! You gonna hold his brother 'W' responsible if your Granny's Social Security check is late or missing? A supposed Republican bitchin about a buracracy not working. Incredible! I would have figured that you would have know that none of them work! Its called Government. The less of it, the better off you'll be!

But you fail to realize this has been REPEATEDLY brought to Jeb's attention, his action, nothing, instead of saying they're all like that or the government shouldn't be involved in the first place why not take the point that these children are caught up in an evil system, yes, I agree with that, all the more reason to find out where they are. I'm really surprised not a single conservative out their is willing to speak out.
Compariing social security checks to children with no parents lost in a system is just stupid and heartless, and well, what I'd expect to hear from some other party member

I am not sure if you know how agencies work within a state. I worked at a state teaching hospital for eleven years. The Governor is the executive branch of a state government. He signs into law, bills that have been submitted by the Congress. He generally oversees the budget.
Politicians come and go. The agencies are in the hands of long, long term employees. Politicians seldom actually GO to the agencies, except for a tour, or to make a speech.
One state, this summer was found to have issued driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. They had a terrorist connection. Do you hold the Governor of that state responsible? Do you hold the President of the USA responsible for that too?

if this was a democrat you'd be hounding him I'd even give a democrat governor a chance to "clean house" before I started hounding him, unless he was shown to be directly complicit in the corruption or mismanagement of one or more departments.

Before you completely blow a gasket, try obtaining information on so-called lost kids in comparable states.
I'll give you a heads up! They won't release the data....assuming they even have it. This is a bogus issue. A lost kid occurs each and every time a change of address form is NOT filled out.
Assuming they stay in the state, they pop up again when they re-apply for benifits. Those that donot usually have re-located elsewhere or no longer qulify for benfits or have changed their name to one of their numerous alias's.

Pull the thread like you always do, go crying to Jim about this thread, wa wa, the truth is out and it's not in our favor. Address the issue for once.1. I don't pull threads, I'm just a plain old user. I've never even asked for a thread to be pulled.
2. I haven't cried to Jim about anything, just illustrating a point.
3. Your use of the word "our" is obviously insincere.
4. Address the issue: Ok, the governor of any state, Republican or Democratic, is almost powerless to control (by law in most cases) the lower levels of buracracy that control these sort of things.
I would like to see the problem solved also, however the fact that the problem exists is not evidence that the govenor is not addressing it. It would be useful in your post, if instead of making gratuitous assertions, you offered some direct evidence or argumentation that Govenor Bush is neither working to improve or is actively making the problem worse
Since I do not live in Florida and do not have news about the issue readily available to me, it would be great if someone on either side of the issue posted some actual facts regarding the govenors stand.

If I were a Florida resident,(which I used to be) I would look at the difficulties Florida had in the southern part of the state with voter registration as well. They appear to be the same type of problem. These lost voters also complained about their republican governor as if it was his fault they were lost.
That is why we call it Floriduh!
Computers are not very smart. They only know what is put into them. Look hard at the people providing the data. Therein you will find the culprit.
