Here are a couple of "Encounters with crazy liberals" stories....:
Our son stayed with friends of his girlfriend's on Majorca.
Also there for awhile at the house was a BBC producer, a woman.
One night she got into a political discussion with one of her hosts, and together they managed to spout the universe of socialist dogma.
After a little while, she stopped and turned to William, a college student, remember, and said " I bet you're hearing all this for the first time!" !!!!!!
William tried to explain the true nature of American campuses and media but he probably didn't get thru to th woman, so bound by her own biases.
Story #2....Reunion with my husband's family n. of San Franciso last month. More than half of them are liberals, including his own parents...
For the most part, we avoided political discussions, but somehow the name of UO42 came up, and husband's elderly aunt said brightly, "That's my guy!"
Stunned silence, even from my in-laws....
Finally, b-i-l, one of the conservatives, said "Well, a good % of American women would agree with you."
Hmmmmm. That remark seemed to nudge something in his aunt's brain.
"Did I say ******?? I meant Carter! That's my guy!"
At that point, I burst out laughing. I'd tried to keep my cool, but that was too much!
Back from Milwaukee last night, leaving for St. Paul Friday, back from that Sunday, leaving for Ft. Knox on Tuesday! Whew!!! I have anticipation fatigue!!
We got Daughter #1 settled in a wonderful little studio right at the edge of Marquette's campus. It's in an old building, immaculately clean, and well kept. Her apartment has bright white walls with dark mahogany woodwork, including crown molding and built in china cabinets. It has loads of storage space, and it's going to be perfect for a single graduate student.
We had 5 of us to move her in (all of us except Eric, of course.......sigh....), so we had an assemby line up the stairs of the apartment building and got her stuff completely moved in in less than an hour. What a sight!!
Today she meets with the Prof she's doing research for, gets a parking permit, phone, and details like that.
On Saturday night she gave me a big hug and said "I love you guys so much!!!" .........makes everything worthwhile when you hear those words......especially from a 22 year old!
btw, Molly......you gotta work on some of those relatives!!
And Miss Marple........no more Spongebob, ya hear??
When I liven in CT - my neighbor's cousin was Av Westin of ABC news. They (neighbors and AV) used to gather and discuss how great Stalin was.
It still gets me going just thinking about it.
