Let me tell you a story about one little boy I watched. Oh, he was a cute little 3 year old...he was. The first day I thought I would read him a book before I tried to put him down for a nap. I placed him on my lap and started to read Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, too. Before I could finish the first paragraph...he punched me in the stomach. Caught me right off guard... he did.

About 6 months later, Hubby was working on something around the house. Hubby put a screwdriver down for ONE second.....the same boy snatched it right up and stabbed Hubby in the arm. No serious injury.

The same boy put a hole in the playroom wall with his fist....spilled gallons of water from the aquarium because all of a sudden he decided to smack it with both is fists. He was a handful.

By the second year my disciplinary actions and consistency started to pay off. He knew that the rewards were plentiful if he behaved. He turned into a well behaved, happy boy.

Soon after, he went to kindergarten where the public school system put him a ritalin(sp)...I was furious!!! After all his improvements throughout the years....they drug this child. I'm upset...still.

That is such a sad story, and it happens all too often. Makes me mad to think about it. The teachers want all the kids to be of one mind so she can control them easier. Make them like robots. So sad.

lysie, going way back to your #235, I'd be upset too about the ritalin. He proved that he could behave if he wanted to and with consistent discipline applied. I think that a lot of the kids on ritalin just need some good, old fashioned discipline in their lives. The way some of the parents in our extended family refuse to properly discipline their kids for their own foolish, lazy reasons really irks me. These parents know better but just aren't willing to do what it takes to make their children behave. We've given them Dr. Dobson's books, "The Strong-willed Child" and "Dare to Discipline", but they claim that it's too hard to follow through. And so the kids are growing up to be such selfish, annoying brats, with absolutely no self discipline or concern for others. But then, that's the way the parents are themselves - selfish. /mini rant
