First you must recognize that this article was written by a loon, and published in the Sierra Times.

There is some good information in it, but it is colored by the fact that this person does not believe any vaccine works. They devote a great deal of space to claiming that none of our vaccines for any disease has been proven to work, and to claims that Vitamin C and giving up sugar are proven to protect you from Viral infection.

I agree that Smallpox is not as infectious or as lethal as the sensationalists in the press have been saying, but that doesn't make it a lesser risk than the new vacine. My guess is that this person would also recomend you not vaccinate your children against Tetanus or Polio.

The original smallpox vaccine was thought to give 4 to 10 years of immunity. Data from all our other live virus vaccines developed since then seems to indicate that the immunity may be lifelong. That would mean that the older part of the population would already be protected.

An attack by smallpox would hurt us far less than any other country on earth, because of our medical facilities. No dictator is gonna use Smallpox to attack us until his military and government have been vaccinated, and vaccinating them would be a giveaway clue that they were the attackers. A smallpox epidemic would spread worldwide, and any nation that starts it can expect to be nuked till they glow by the US, Russia, and everyone else with a bomb to spare. They would not have a single supporter anywhere.

I don't think we are in much danger of a Smallpox attack, but I will certainly get re vaccinated if the vaccine is made available, because I don't think the vaccine is dangerous and I don't think Vitamin C is gonna protect me.

Thanks for the response. Actually, I have found some exceptionally well thought out and well documented articles at Sierra Times and I thought this article made a lot of good points. I tend to agree with you about the efficacy of vaccines though. If it were true that they were ineffective and that the risk of the vaccine exceeded the disease, I presume we would have discovered that long ago and ceased to use them. I am thinking that the truth lies somewhere in the middle, as is so often the case.

Something that is seldom mentioned in these discussions it seems is the fact that God calls homosexuality a sin, an abomination. Now that, for me, is enough because the nature of God is NOT to make us in such a way that we have to commit certain sins because it is in our genes.

Most of the 'Sins' committed in this country are a result of alcoholism, and alcoholism is known positively to be a genetic condition.

When I was young, we all lost friends or neighbors to polio. After we were vaccinated with the Salk Vaccine, the losses stopped. Maybe it was just a coincidance.

When I was young, all children were expected to get the basic childhood diseases of Rubella, meassels, Chicken Pox, and Mumps. They started vaccinatig children for these and now no one gets them. Maybe that is a coincidance too.

Actually, there is legitimacy to the Vitamin C claims. It may not be the cure-all that many claim, but it has proven to be effective in warding off a number of maladies.

I know all about Linus Pauling. He was a fine scientist and knew what he had to do to prove something scientifically. He was convinced about Vitamin C, but never came up with scientific proof, only anecdotal evidence. The only thing Vitamin C has ever been scientificcally proven to prevent or cure is scurvey
