AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 552) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | July 26, 2002 | All of Us

We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

The Senate has altered the Homeland Security Department bill to a manner not pleasing to the Administration. The Senate would basically make it very difficult to fire or discipline workers in the new Department; the Administration wants broad exemption from current civil service rules to hire, fire, and discipline workers in the manner it sees fit. Under the Senate bill, for example, if a border guard were found to be intoxicated on the job, there would have to be 30 days notice prior to termination, and the worker would still have to be paid during that time.

The House voted to create an independent commission to look into the affairs surrounding the September 11 attack.

Algore said he supports the overthrow of Iraqi President Saddam, but that it is not a good idea to invade now.

The Justice Department has created a program - operation TIPS [Terrorism Information and Prevention System]. The program gives American truckers, train conductors, ship captains, utility employees a formal way to report suspicious activity that may be terror related. The program will act as a clearing house, sending the information to appropriate law enforcement agencies for further consideration. The ACLU is not happy about the program, saying it will create a 1984 scenario whereby Americans are spying on other Americans.

Helen Thomas has said the Administration is abandoning women's rights by withdrawing support for the international women's rights treaty, she writes in the Houston Chronicle. Conservatives feel the problems in the treaty - its capability of encouraging abortions and legalizing prostitution - outweigh any possible benefits.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

It's nice to be here in the mornings. I have seen several mentions about a coal mine. What's up with that? I didn't see anything in breaking news about it.

Thanks for asking. I went to see him yesterday. He appears to be in pain and looks weak, however, he still has his sense of humor. He seems to be retaining water. :-(

Not sure how long he will be in the hospital. I do know he will need three weeks of rehab at a local facility.

At a mine located in Somerset, Pennsylvania (western PA) a mining crew in an underground mine broke through to an abandoned mine filled with water. The walls collapsed, trapping the miners underground with the water rising.

There are nine men trapped. They were still believed alive yesterday afternoon, because tapping was heard on the casement of the drill hole that was drilled to get them air.

In order to effect a rescue, they must drill straight down from the surface, a distance of 300 feet. Special equipment was brought in from West Virginia yesterday, a huge drill with a 30-inch augur. Unfortunately, the bit broke when they had drilled about 100 feet. The replacement is not on site, so they are waiting to get that delivered. The water temperature is 55 degrees, increasing the danger of death by hypothermia.

This is one of the reasons I am glad my husband is out of mining. Although he loved it, every day that he left for work I worried about something like this. Underground mine managers walk the mines...they do not sit on the surface giving orders. Prayers for all those men and their families.

Since drilling is Hubby's line of work.(26 years at it), I'm going to ask him how he gets out broken bits. I know he has a technique other drillers don't use and they have often times asked for his help. Usually a piece of equipment is lowered and screwed onto the the broken bit. It's after that point he does a little something different.

#59...Thanks for asking, hon.
He's very optimistic, and working hard to get an updated portfolio & resume out to companies in the area.

I believe he's also working on a website for distribution....

..anyway, he seems upbeat!

He called his Dad last night to wish him a Happy Birthday.
Our daughter shopped for her & her brother & gifted hubby with a lovely box of gifts :)
One gift he requested was the soundtrack of the new version of Planet of the Apes...

We just saw that movie last week for the first time, and loved the music-----which is by Danny Elfman (who also did soundtracks for Spiderman....Nightmare Before Christmas...and other movies.

Are you in Sarasota yet? :)

Morning all! Been busy getting the housework done while it's still cool. Not that I don't have a/c, mind you, but...

2/3rds...that rant was just me venting, although I wish I could stand up in front of 3 million people and say it out loud! :-) I am so glad that I don't have high blood pressure, because if I did, it would have gone off the scale this morning.

While watching a debate between a prosecutor/defense lawyer this morning on FNC (I think the Defense lawyers name was Nina? Anita?) about the Moussauoi case, the defense lawyer likened his conditions in jail to those who were taken hostage in Iraq!!!!! "He has no contact with the outside world, (duh) his meals are slipped through a "window", (and your point is?) and he really doesn't understand what he's being charged with, to be honest."

Well. LADEEDAA. Excuse me, Miss KnowItAllLet'sFeelSorryforMoussauoiLawyerLady, but! Let's try to use the facts in this case, shall we? So before you go jumping off a mountain without your parachute (your 1/2 way down as it is) let's go over a few things:
1. The judge told him he should use the court appointed lawyers; he said they wanted to kill him.
2. Would you like us to release him into the rest of the prison population? Do you think that he would feel more comfortable with them? Cause ya know, even though some of these guys are in prison for heinous crimes, they are Americans. And whether they are Americans behind bars or Americans in front of a bar, they are still very ticked off about what happened on 9/11. You make the call.
3. Are we now suppossed to buy into your theory that this man does not know our legal system, yet he was the one who refused our help and told the judge that he hoped that Allah would destroy America? Hold on here a minute while I get my tissues out to wipe the tears off my cheeks (tears of laughter, that is...
4. Have you ever won a case in a court of law?
5. How DARE YOU compare this monster who would no doubtedly take your life given the chance, to the men who were held hostage in the 1980's. You should have your law license taken away just for thinking that one up, lady.
6. He was given EVERY AND AMPLE opportunity to be given a defense team. He, however, chose not to take up us on that. Instead, this clown decided that he would defend himself, and the only thing he is doing right now is giving fools like you the opportunity to gain their 15 minutes of fame on TV.

Guess What? Your time is UP. You make me sick.

Ok....that's my rant for today. Now on to happier things. :-)

And many, many prayers for those poor miners and the rescue workers who are trying to get them out. My heart truly goes out to all of them. May God protect them and guide the rescue workers. It's been almost 24 hours since they've heard any sort of tapping at all.

I think it's an excellent idea. Now, how do we go about implementing this plan? :-)
