The Senate has altered the Homeland Security Department bill to a manner not pleasing to the Administration. The Senate would basically make it very difficult to fire or discipline workers in the new Department; the Administration wants broad exemption from current civil service rules to hire, fire, and discipline workers in the manner it sees fit. Under the Senate bill, for example, if a border guard were found to be intoxicated on the job, there would have to be 30 days notice prior to termination, and the worker would still have to be paid during that time.

The House voted to create an independent commission to look into the affairs surrounding the September 11 attack.

Algore said he supports the overthrow of Iraqi President Saddam, but that it is not a good idea to invade now.

The Justice Department has created a program - operation TIPS [Terrorism Information and Prevention System]. The program gives American truckers, train conductors, ship captains, utility employees a formal way to report suspicious activity that may be terror related. The program will act as a clearing house, sending the information to appropriate law enforcement agencies for further consideration. The ACLU is not happy about the program, saying it will create a 1984 scenario whereby Americans are spying on other Americans.

Helen Thomas has said the Administration is abandoning women's rights by withdrawing support for the international women's rights treaty, she writes in the Houston Chronicle. Conservatives feel the problems in the treaty - its capability of encouraging abortions and legalizing prostitution - outweigh any possible benefits.

I was just watching the frantic efforts to save these miners ... and I thought ... frame by frame ... I was watching all that is the very best about our Country ... simple, hard men ... doing what needs/can be done ... even if they think the outcome will not be a happy one. Beautiful, really ...

Well...Summer Camp is officially over for the year....sighs...the kids enjoyed it. However, nothing can be simple anymore and today is no different. The boys have been (ahem cough cough cough) "sharing" their GameBoy Advance with each other since they got it last week. So of course they have been bringing it to camp with them (Mr. DJ inscribed their names on it with some kind of electric tool, I don't know how) and I kept telling them every single day that they had better NOT let anyone else "borrow" it..well, today this classmate of Michael's took the game right out of it!!! Mark tried to no avail to get it back, and when this kid would not listen to Mark, Mark decided to kick him to get his attention....well, he got attention, but it wasn't the kind he wanted. So while Mark was sitting in the TIME-OUT CHAIR, off goes this kid with the game! Out the door, adios! And Mark is crying and crying and crying when I arrive...and the teacher says, "He got in trouble for kicking someone, and he's been crying ever since.." I thought to myself that this was unusual because normally Mark is not the type to be physical unless it's the only option left to him. So, I asked him what happened, and he told me, and I told the camp people. Now, we just called the kid who took their game and I let the boys talk to him and his father and they told him he had it, and his father said, "Well...we're leaving to go on vacation tomorrow, so we won't be able to get it to you until school starts."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT???????? The boys told me this and I got on the phone and told him that his son not only took the game but now is responsible for bringing it back and wouldn't it be a great example for his son if he showed him that the vacation could wait about 20 minutes while HE drove over here, OR I could send my husband there.....

It's coming home in a few minutes........:-)

I just returned from my local supermarket.

Today is their 1 year anniversary, and they were handing out free samples, and giving away a doorprize :)

I just couldn't resist.....

..I mean, the samples were just that....samples...little peasize samples of food..LOL

...but I ate my way through the store, starting with the required cake.....then a tiny cracker with cheese.....passed up the mushroom.....on to grilled steak.....a tiny cup of almonds.....and lastly, ice cream :)

I've just had supper :)))))
