the native americans carve very small animals from gemstone
(turquoise, or malachite, or jet, or serpentine, etc)
the animals are not big, bout size of quarter
they believe these carved animals (called fetishes) are endowed with the qualities of the animal
so the eagle gives sharp eyesight, bear gives strength, coyote gives quick wits, etc
they wear them so they will have those qualities
they are exceptionally beautiful and I love them
when chrissie said ''you were badgered on that corruption thread'' that was back in january
I went the next day to the native american store
and got myself a beautiful badger fetish to sit on my desk
it brings me huge joy
Bill bought the puma fetish, it is stunning

is that quarter or 50 cent piece or silver dollar next to it?
I think fetishes are size of quarter
each fetish is handcarved by indian artist, no two are alike
my puma fetish is more interesting and thrilling than this one in pic (I think)
maybe each tribe has different style, and each artist his own style?
