We recently finished Ivanhoe as a family reading project. Then went to the library and checked out the movie (I think it was 4 videos long). It was great to do a critique of the movie compared to the book. Not a bad project for a 11 and 14 year old. How many of the public school systems have reading lists like these on this thread?

Great idea! We read to the kids every night; even though they are going into the 7th and 9th grades. I was thinking that reading something from the time frame they are studying would be interesting. Right now we're reading "Hunt for Red October", editing on the fly when necessary. They are enjoying it; we had seen the movie last year, but will just have to get it from Netflix again!
