the next time I encounter the problem, I forget how I solved it the first time!

Since you brought it up ... On MSN Voice IM, my transmissions cannot be heard. They are fine on Yahoo IM or AOL so the mike is working. Once before, I fixed the problem but have forgotten what I did. Any ideas?

Val had a Val-id idea earlier... I think MSN, Yahoo, and AOL are designed to screw with each other. They want you to choose one product and become a slave to it.
