Except for the Saturday Night Live skit where he and Chris Farley were competing for a spot in the Chippendales.

Absolutely hilarious (because of Chris Farley, of course).

NO Alec Baldwin. He promised he would LEAVE the US if Dubya was declared the US President, and he hasn't left.

Paying to watch a movie or rent a video or to buy any service is a vote, just ask the Montgomery bus companies.

Wow. Sixteen posts and no one's mentioned Whoopi Goldberg? Or Ted Danson? Or Woody Harrelson?

The've been in something recently?

Make sure you ask your banker what his political beliefs may be, or the owner of your local hardware store and the gas station downtown. And the person who sells you your next car.

The point is that nobody asked them for their political beliefs. They seem to think they're so important that their views can influence us mere mortals. They made the choice to speak out and alienate half the population and I made the choice not to contribute to their careers.

Here's the problem. Most artists tend to be leftists. Unfortunate but true. The successful ones begin to feel guilty about their wealth and decide the only thing to do is convince themselves that they are the most 'compassionate' people alive. This is not accomplished by giving away their own riches, but by giving away your riches. Easy, see?

Anyway, applying a political litmus test to the arts means you'd, e.g., have to give up listening to Simon & Garfunkel, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Enya, and just about every popular musician.

I don't know Mike Oldfield's politics--and I am afraid to find out. But you'll pry "Incantations" from my cold dead hands...even if he is a flaming socialist.

Sorry.

What does it matter? Why deprive yourself of good, apolitical entertainment because you disagree with the views of a participant? I can certainly understand choosing not to watch the West Wing, for example, a show that obviously espouses liberal views. But if Martin Sheen appears in an apolitical film that gets universally good reviews, why say "I won't see that" because of his political slant, when it has absolutely nothing to do with the movie he's in?

I don't mind legitimate criticism and even outrage re: the recent scandals, especially if the criticisms come from practising, committed Catholics.

But Ms. Boyle (raised Catholic, definitely the kind who gives all Catholics a bad reputation) has trashed the church in its entirety, accusing it of being 100% corrupt, evil, etc.--as if there's no redeeming value in the church whatsoever. The real reason she hates the Church is she doesn't want to feel guilty about acting like a slut, being drunk and disorderly, having abortions, and living a totally narcissistic life.

Considering that she's a sleazy, immoral psycho (who's had the police called on her for violent drunken behavior), her lectures about the "evil" of the Catholic Church are simply ridiculous.

There is no way in hell that refraining from watching their movies would effect their careers. Just because they may be intellectual idiots doesn't mean you can't enjoy their talent as actors.

If I did the same with musicians, my cd cases would be empty. Face it, people that are good a logic and reason, suck at the fine arts. Their emotionalism is what makes them so good at what they do. I say, enjoy it.

...and I made the choice not to contribute to their careers.

I understand that, but for the most part I don't really care what they say because they are not that important and I seperate their idiocy from their work. The same is true in the music industry where many pretty decent artists are outspoken politically and I don't boycott their music.

Has Patrick Swayze ever said anything offensive or do you just not like him for other reasons? I don't really don't have any opinion of him either way, I'm just curious.

Watching a movie is not a vote.

Sure it is, if you go to a theatre and buy a movie ticket. I cheer and do "the wave" every time a leftist piece of cr*p like "The Candidate" bombs.

......Which is why I rarely go to the movies anymore. It's not a huge sacrifice since so many movies now are mediocre to terrible.
