The Guild 7-01-2002 Spotty's White House Tour
The White House ^ | 7-01-2002

Hello, I'm Spotty, the President's English
Springer Spaniel. (I'm the spotted dog in the picture with Laura Bush
and my pal, Barney, the Scottish Terrier.)

I love this house and thought you would enjoy a tour…from a dog's point of view. I've heard there are many different names for this house. Some call it the "People's House" while others call it the "White House."

The White House is larger than any dog house I've ever seen, that's for sure. There are six floors, 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 147 windows, 412 doors, 12 chimneys, 8 staircases, and 3 elevators. As you can see, it's easy to lose your tennis ball in this place. My favorite room is the chief usher's office. I love to sleep on the floor next to his desk.

Vermeil Room

This is the Vermeil Room. I like to call this room the "Fur may" Room, but the correct pronunciation is "vur-may." I heard the curator say that vermeil objects are silver pieces that have been dipped in gold. Wow! Maybe I can get a vermeil dog tag one day. Several portraits of First Ladies hang on the walls in this room.

Library

The White House Library is a great room to do something really exciting…read! The curator told me that the books in this room are all by American authors. Maybe one day I can put my favorite book, Hank the Cowdog, on the shelf in here. First Lady Abigail Fillmore (1850-53) asked Congress to buy books for the White House. The American Booksellers Association began to add to the collection in the 1930s. Today, many of these books are on display in the library. My owner, First Lady Laura Bush, loves books. She was a public school librarian and a teacher, and she still enjoys sharing the joy of reading with children.

Are you stuck inside today with the kids because it's too hot? Raining? Spend a few minutes with the kids and take Spotty's tour of The White House!
It's fun and the kids won't even know they're learning!

What ever happened to manly footwear? Those sandals look very similar to a pair in the Eddie Bauer catalog--of course, those are meant for women.

or your husband loses an election is normal.....not insanity

I remember reading something about when #41 lost the election in '92. Apparently Dubya was really upset, and was surprised when his Dad wasn't all upset about it. #41 told him that yeah the election was important, but his family was MORE important, so he wasn't going to get all upset about losing because it meant he got to spend mor time with the ones he loved. Dubya said this put things in a different perspective for him.

I don't know about FR, but dh on my homeschooling message boards stands for 'dear husband'.

this guy could teach Christine Todd Whitman a thing or two about make-up. Of course with all that hair in his face I don't know how he is going to see her.

I can't believe someone actually designed this. It looks like they bought all kinds of junk from a thrift shop and put it on this poor guy at one time, along with a trowl full of make-up.

He appears to have a retro, David Bowie thing going with that ensemble. Maybe it's just the make up that reminds me of him.

I had to laugh at the first male model, I thought the perfect caption would be: "What would Jesus wear?" then I saw HLL's comment about his footwear. Maybe they're water walkers.

Sorry about your electrical problems. Do you have a friend that has a pool you can use? Keep cool.

We have a heat index right now...

Roll out that chicken salad recipe...especially if you have a burner on your outside grill for cooking the chicken. And put the canteloupes in a plastic bag and drop them in a cooler of ice....coooooool.

Ha! Look what's on the front page of the NY Post this morning.

Men's fashions catch on fast, I see.

;-) I'd have to see his teeth,
but it would appear to be John Elway
working the runway.
