You have got it straight...his dad graduated from reform school, which seemed to have straightened him out...then he went to work, got married, and then enlisted into the army...then the wife got pregnant, had the baby(my husband) while he was overseas...then he went landed at Normandy, got shell shocked and wounded, was sent back to USA...wife left, did not take the baby with...

He was sick, spent several years in the hospital...so the baby(my husband) was sent to live with his fathers grandparents...

A truly dysfunctional family story...

I meant my husband went to live with his fathers parents, not his fathers grandparents...

I bet it was nice for him growing up with his grandma
I spent a week living with my grandma when I was 4 years old and my mom was giving birth to my brother in hospital
I found it relaxing living with my grandma
my grandmother seemed to ignore me more
and we'd play cards together all afternoon
it was a dreamier environment
