No argument there. It seems though that there are some mods with hair triggers - and extremely thin-skinned about comments from users about the mods. If I could suggest one thing, it would be that the moderators develop a thicker skin - they shouldn't take comments directed towards them so seriously, since they have quite a bit of power on the board, and especially in light of the fact that they are anonymous.

Precisely. That is what was happening before Jim/John invented moderators. I was once flamed for making what I thought was a well reasoned comment to a discussion. One of the parties thought that he was in a private discussion, rather than a public thread. That still happens. It has happened to me on the daily bush love-in threads (and I like Bush, too) as well as on the South Africa threads.

Years ago, I use to cringe at the vulgar language and personal assults launched by all too many people on FR.
Now with moderators, it is down to a level of personal insults which one can tolerate.
Like it or not, it was all brought about by the intemperate posting of too many people.
In this social setting, when one remains nameless and faceless, he or she tends to say and do things that are unacceptable in face to face gatherings.

Moderation is not censorship, moderation is necessary. I agree. Moderation is quality control.

Who is that?

One of the parties thought that he was in a private discussion, rather than a public thread. There used to be a lot of that 'how dare you post to me, I wasn't posting to you nonsense. You would think they had never heard of freepmail. It wasn't worth JimRob's time, but when things are slow, the mods can get people to knock off that kind of stuff.
