Unemployed Freepers - Let's network.

While reading at thread about unemployment the other day I got an idea. Every job I have ever gotten was through someone I know. I have never gotten a job through answering ads or through one of those internet job sites. I've tried, and I find them pretty useless. They are nothing but a black hole for resumes.

Well, I've been unemployed for quite a while now, and all of my contacts are dried up. Seems everyone I know is either also unemployed, or works somewhere that is laying off rather than hiring. I'm out of ideas. I go on lots of informational interviews, to make new contacts, but no one has any hard leads to give me.

So if you are an unemployed freeper, why not let everyone know on this thread. State basicly what you do or are looking for, how much you are looking to make, and what town you are in. Other freepers from your area could then freepmail you if they have a lead for you, or if they could get you a job either where they work, or somewhere else.

Unemployed professional soldier (7 years active by way of 2 re-enlistments) needs decent work. Just odd-jobbing in the meantime. Experiences are many, since I've become a Jack-of-all trades (and master of none, which is total murder when it comes time to describe what I can do). Been a field service tech for residential satellite dishes (Since the big C-Band dishes died, I am no longer useful to the satellite dish industry), mail clerk, stock clerk, quality control inspector, and a host of dirty $.25 above minimum-wage jobs. I had to leave the Army to care for my son (single-dads don't function in a light-infantry rifle battalion) and my career died. Not to begrudge my boy, not his fault my manic-depressive 2nd wife bolted. For some odd reason, the Army decided to grant my release rather than let me change to a soft (gag) MOS....my service record was excellent. Currently residing in SW Missouri, looking for work in the Springfield area. Any tips, leads, or even (praise be) offers would be appreciated. Email to todbworth@hotmail.com

How can you live on such little money??

ROFL! I raised two daughters by myself on $50/week for groceries. It CAN be done.

Figured I'd bump this one again.

Is IT dead? I know the high-dollar jobs are tough to get any more, but 30-40K is plenty for me.

I'm in the same unemployment boat. I was writing features and news pieces for radio before I was axed, and I'm looking for similar work in the general NYC broadcast industry. The Dept of Unemployment are the biggest bunch of morons. They even surpass the DMV idiots.

Their laziness and incompetence can make you lose your benefits. Have you ever noticed that the schooling the DOL will pay for is only vocational? Basically they're trying to prepare you to become a city worker and keep you out of the private sector. They won't finance Continuing studies programs at colleges, because it's too geared toward the private sector. Afterall How can they raise taxes if they encouraged private sector jobs?
