Youy're absolutely right about marrying again after a spouse dies. I did not and wish I had. I've been living alone in the woods for more than three years, and I must admit it's depressing. But every man I've met here on the left coast has been a raving liberal and I cannot stand them. This is no fun!
As for Charles and Camilla, I wish they had been able to marry in the first place, but Mummie said no, so Charles found beautiful but unstable Diana, who disgraced them all. Charles and Camilla have been in love all these years. I find that quite touching. More power to them!

Once the Queen breaks the record for longest reign, she will abdicate.
That would leave Charles a few years like you said.

Go on the next FReep cruise and find a nice conservative curmudgeon to take back to the woods with you. ;-)

Paul's wife-to-be may be a golddigger, but his children need to step back. Even parents can make mistakes, and they have to learn from them, just like their kids. My father-in-law got married a few years after his wife died, and the new wife (and her kids) were only after his money, which he realized shortly after the wedding. He divorced her eventually, but I respect my husband and his sister for not trying to interject themselves in the situation or throwing ultimatums at him.

I realized the selfishness we adult children can have regarding our parents re-marring, when I met Mr. Teacup's grandmother. She had been a widow for many years. She was in her 80's and went to the senior center every day to play cards. There she met a man, whom she rather liked. They talked about marriage, but his kids said "NO!" 6 months later she died, paying her electic bill. Mr. Teacup and I said, "She would have had 6 months of company." Actually, when you get to be that age, it's more like getting someone to help you with the chores, bills, health and company.
PoisedWoman, I'm a California gal born and raised. I'm living in Virginia and I don't think I'll ever go back to California. I've been out here in the East coast for 3 years. I'm just now beginning to see how crazy California has gotten. I talk to my siblings who still live there. You should hear some of the stuff they find normal, LOL,LOL. We'll have to find you a nice conservative man to keep you company.
Mountaineer, yes, sometime we parents make mistakes too, HA! But I agree we still can learn from our mistakes.
I had a friend in california, who's father was dying of cancer. He was a widower for many years. He met and married a rather young (40-50ish)travel agent. The adult kids were angry!!! Was she after his money? Yes. In his last years, he took her on several crusies around the world. When he died he left her 20 Thousand dollars. I asked my friend, "If you had hired a full time nurse to care for your dad, or if he had been put in a home, how much would it have cost you? Consider it getting off cheap." Plus, he enjoyed himself until the very end. Last I heard, she was cozying on up to another elderly rich guy. No lie! Hey, this woman may not be my cup of tea, but she serves a purpose, LOL,LOL,LOL.

Hey, Teacup, I even thought that Anna Nicole Smith had a legitimate claim for putting up with the old jerk and making him happy during his last years. Who else would have taken him on? of course money counts. These old geezers use it to woo and win women all the time. And since women STILL make less than men, why not marry for money? Hmmmmm? You earn it, of course, but there are worse jobs that pay less. I'd pick up a lot of socks for a few mil, yes I would.

And the buzz is around town that Tom Cruise is already married..in Colorado or in the Bahamas last weekend-and what is up with Matthew McGonahuey and Janet Jackson (those two as an item??)In the Enquirer last week or the week before there was a thing about Janet and some record producer getting together at her birthday party. I just asked a co-worker and she remembered his name, Jermaine Dupree. I found this picture of him. I can't post this picture for some reason, but here is the link to his picture. Jermaine Dupree This is a decent picture of him. The picture in the Enquirer is really unflattering. It made him look like he had big bug eyes.

Wow, does he have a thyroid problem!

Well, I don't have any problems with people remarrying when the first spouse dies. And you're right, people have a right certainly to spend their time and money as they wish. I guess I just still feel a little proprietary about "the cute Beatle"!
When I was very young and the Beatles were very new (I'm showing my age here), he was the one I liked the most and I always wished he had married Jane Asher, in fact. Did you know that she's considered the Martha Stewart of England? She's got some popular tv program, I heard, and has written a number of books along the lines of Martha, apparently. I always thought she and Paul were a cute couple.
As for Anna Nicole Smith, her husband must have died a happy man! And she deserves her part of his fortune, definitely. She earned it!

Once the Queen breaks the record for longest reign, she will abdicate.Ah, a little competition with her great-great grandmother, I see. I hope she breaks the record!

When Linda died I felt so awful for Paul, but men who have had a happy marriage usually look to marry quickly. I just wish that the family would all get along before he got married. It's sad to marry and have your children strongly object, especially when the new and younger than you stepmother has pubically said nasty things about the children.
I have seen too many families ripped apart by a remarriage and since Paul has had such a loving family, I really have a lot of compassion for his kids.

I have seen too many families ripped apart by a remarriage and since Paul has had such a loving family, I really have a lot of compassion for his kids.Oh, I do too. And it's so hard on kids of any age when there's a remarriage like this. Paul will have his hands full with this. Well, at least they are all grown, and I don't think any of them are still living with him, so maybe that will make it easier all around.
Sad about Paul's hair though... I love gray hair.

Janet is bisexual anyway, most of these men are just temporary flings.
She was 'married' to the El Debarge guy for 10 years and no one knew/cared..
To: codebreaker
Janet is bisexual anyway, most of these men are just temporary flings.Really? I have never heard that before. Is there one normal person in that family? You would think with all 75 Jackson kids or however many there are that the odds would be that one of them would be at least normal-ish.

Tell those rude buggers to buy their own piece of land and play on it!
I guess nothing anyone does anymore should surprise me.

Now this is a photo I didn't need to see. Reno and Martin Sheen!
To: texasbluebell
Do we need any more proof that that Martin Sheen is insane?? That man is not right.
To: texasbluebell
Thanks for the update on Jane Asher. I kinda wanted Paul to marry her, too. What is her marital status now?
I, also, like men with gray hair. Yes, I have heard the gerbil story and yes, I know he is ultra-liberal.
To: texasbluebell
I am sitting here, horrified with my hand over my mouth.
What on God's green earth must he have been thinking?
Sometimes reality IS stranger than fiction. Blecch, that's not funny!
