I realized the selfishness we adult children can have regarding our parents re-marring, when I met Mr. Teacup's grandmother. She had been a widow for many years. She was in her 80's and went to the senior center every day to play cards. There she met a man, whom she rather liked. They talked about marriage, but his kids said "NO!" 6 months later she died, paying her electic bill. Mr. Teacup and I said, "She would have had 6 months of company." Actually, when you get to be that age, it's more like getting someone to help you with the chores, bills, health and company.

PoisedWoman, I'm a California gal born and raised. I'm living in Virginia and I don't think I'll ever go back to California. I've been out here in the East coast for 3 years. I'm just now beginning to see how crazy California has gotten. I talk to my siblings who still live there. You should hear some of the stuff they find normal, LOL,LOL. We'll have to find you a nice conservative man to keep you company.

Mountaineer, yes, sometime we parents make mistakes too, HA! But I agree we still can learn from our mistakes.

I had a friend in california, who's father was dying of cancer. He was a widower for many years. He met and married a rather young (40-50ish)travel agent. The adult kids were angry!!! Was she after his money? Yes. In his last years, he took her on several crusies around the world. When he died he left her 20 Thousand dollars. I asked my friend, "If you had hired a full time nurse to care for your dad, or if he had been put in a home, how much would it have cost you? Consider it getting off cheap." Plus, he enjoyed himself until the very end. Last I heard, she was cozying on up to another elderly rich guy. No lie! Hey, this woman may not be my cup of tea, but she serves a purpose, LOL,LOL,LOL.

Hey, Teacup, I even thought that Anna Nicole Smith had a legitimate claim for putting up with the old jerk and making him happy during his last years. Who else would have taken him on? of course money counts. These old geezers use it to woo and win women all the time. And since women STILL make less than men, why not marry for money? Hmmmmm? You earn it, of course, but there are worse jobs that pay less. I'd pick up a lot of socks for a few mil, yes I would.
