An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

"Act conservative and conservatives will respond accordingly."

Bush will have to prove himself. Right now, he is doing exactly the opposite. We have learned that an R after a politican's name means little.

"And serious anti-Americans of what is commonly called the far right, although I think that is a misnomer."

Did you forget to put in "religious" in far right?

"I still remind those tho claim they will never vote for Bush, that by not voting for the Republican, you give the advantage to the Democrat."

I've never made such a claim regarding Dubyuh and wouldn't...the Presidency's too durned important. However, I will not support Virginia's candidate for Senator, RINO Jawn Wahnah, as he's stabbed conservatism in the back far too many times.

I'll work to increase our lead in the House and retake the Senate, but I'd really like to see this accomplished while the GOP is supporting an agenda for limiting the size and scope of the Federal Leviathan.

I see your point regarding conservative support, but I've still yet to see that 90% approval rating applied to anything but "Republicans."

If polls are what is showing a 90+ percent approval rating, I suggest a nationwide survey of people who actually voted for Bush. There might be a marked difference. I voted for Bush. He has lost me.

"Just be comfortable that by not voting Republican YOU advance the RAT agenda."

And voting for Bush doesn't do that?

P.S. Insulting people & calling them names because they don't agree will usually not convince them to agree with you - it generally will only confirm them in their resistance to your viewpoint.

Hey, that's the best thing said on this whole darn thread!!! Why'd you have to use such small type???? :-)

This is a CONSERVATIVE forum, not a BUSH forum.

I sure hope so, just having a "republican" in front your name should mean nothing, especially with the ever expanding RINO population.

Welcome home, Walkin Man! member since December 20th, 1998
I disagree with many of the things W has been doing lately but to prove I'm not a DU sleeper look above.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him.

heh heh, this is too easy.

You woundn't support W if he lied under oath? He put his hand on the Bible and swore to God that he would protect and defend the Constitution of the United States then signed a bill into law that takes away the right of free speech. So I must assume that now that you know this fact you no longer support W, right???

I doubt it will come from ANY president. Bush isn't perfect but I can't help but compare him to what we had for 8 verryyy long and painful years and I'm a much happier person than I was then. I would love it if he did everything according to our conservative bent here but I'm not betting the farm on it.

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election.

I've been around here quite a while myself.
And although (believe it or not) some have called me a "neocon", nobody has ever accused me of being a "bushbot" either. (FAR from it).
IMHO, JimRob has always exhibited extraordinarily good judgement in rooting out "disruptors". I can't say that I've always 100% agreed, but not only is it his right to call 'em as he sees 'em, but I also know that I personally would be much more "unfair" if given the power of the zap button. Unlike many who would whine about "censorship", I applaud and commend his tolerance and restraint.

I don't see any reason for Jim to change his policies simply because of some routine bickering between "Bushbots" and "Rushbots" that was aggravated by the usual band of flying monkey disruptors.

I dunno. Maybe typos, maybe minds hung up with a wrong date (it happens), maybe a conspiracy theory about secret government research in time trave applies. Good catch, anyway.

The first ammendment prevents Government from stoping free speach, not Jim Robinson. This is his house, we have to play by his rules.

Your first sentence just repeated what I already told you in #112, so don't act like you're straightening ME out! In your second sentence, you project your own desire for suppression and censorship onto Jim Robinson. Since JimRob permits criticism of George W. Bush, and you insist that you're 100% behind JimRob, logical and moral consistency would require that you tolerate the criticism. Oh, I just remembered -- you're a hypocrite and a bully.

While JimRob, as proprietor of FR, has the right to ban or censor anyone he wants to, this place is called freerepublic.com, not "gulag.com," "concentrationcamp.com," or "lucianne.com." Since JimRob proposes to offer a home for the free debate of ideas, he has morally obliged himself to follow through on that proposal. You are perfectly entitled to start up your own discussion site, though you could not call it bigguyandrusty99.com, as that name is under copyright. But if you insist on continuing to try and bully FReepers, you will suffer continued ridicule and mockery, as you have on this thread.

Since folks come to FR because it has NOT been taken over by thread nannies like yourself, were JimRob to permit you to bully him into such censorship (fat chance, though I'd love to see you keep trying!), FR would have no reason for existing. Folks would simply go to trixie.com, where you have probably been bullying snd censoring people for a long time.
