An Open letter to Jim Robinson: Can the Bush-Bashers

Dear Mr. Robinson,

I have been a loyal member of the Free Republic since before the 2000 election. I have been a Conservative since the early days of Clinton. When I found this site, I thought "Thank God, people who think like me." I have continued to think this until the more recent days. Now, it seems that there are threads left and right bashing our President.

Why? There are things the President has done which I don't agree with but my loyality still lies with him. I am not sure if these "Bush-Bashers" fail to see the reality that with politics comes comprimise or it is something worse. I feel there is a cancer in the Free Republic. Some are eating their own.

I feel that some of these people are members of the dreaded democratic underground disguised as disgruntled conservatives. They are only here to stir up trouble. What's worse, they are doing just that. I am not sure what I think you should do.

As a conservative, I believe in our moral code but I also realize the reality of politics. I back our President but if he were doing something unsavory (like lying under oath,) I could not support him. This is unlike the left's clintonista dogma. What President Bush is doing is not betraying the conservative cause. He is using politics to confound the left. Those who do not understand this are either leftists themself or unable to separate themselves from their zealousness.

This is your show. You choose who gets to be a member and who does not. Those who break your rules are banished from the kingdom. I am not discouraging free speech, but this is free speech in your forum. These Bush-Bashers are brining us down. When this infighting happened in 1992, Bill Clinton got elected. let's not let that happen again.

Yours,

Big Guy and Rusty 99

I voted for Bush in the general election and do NOT just bash him for the hell of it.

If Bush does something that is NOT conservative and NOT in keeping with his campaign promises, then I certainly will bash him for it. This is not out of spite but out of being consistent with my principles to uphold conservative values. Bush is mercifully bashed for CONTINUING to violate 120 years of GOP platforms by pushing amnesty for ILLEGALS, and he has also been bashed pretty hard for flip-flopping on the unconstitutional CFR. Both issues, IMO, were justifiable reasons to slam Bush.

As for the folks who bash Bush no matter what, I agree with you that they tend to be disrupters and a few might even be from the D.U. However, I also think the "I hate anyone with the name 'Bush'" crowd is a very small minority of this forum. Most of 'em spent so much time using DNC tacits to attack Bush during the 2000 election ("he does coke!!! we have proof! and Dick Cheney's a fascist!") that they lost all creditability and are generally ignored on this forum. I've noticed they are either liberal Republican RINOs like Lincoln Chafee and the Log Cabin folks, or they are yellow-dog Democrats who hate America and anyone with an "R" next to their name because grandpa told them to.

To lump legitimate Bush protests with mindless "I simply despise all Republicans" rhetoric is both dishonest and whiny. If Bush WAKES UP and starts working for a conservative agenda again, I will be the first to praise him and pick up a "Bush 2004" bumper sticker. If not, I'll be the first to pick up my "Tancredo 2004" bumper sticker. Whether or not Bush is "bashed" on this forum is up to him. Act conservative and conservatives will respond accordingly.

Well, I have one for you: 90 plus percent of conservatives approve of the way George W. Bush is conducting himself as the president of the United States

Doubt it. I don't believe in polls. The polls have been wrong in the last three big elections in Michigan, and two other elections before that here. Polls are worthless(and I know most of the tricks in polls as well).

Right now if polled, I'd give him a "fair" rating.

I agree. A lot of either lilly livered coward conservatives who panic at the least sign of anything -- too emotional.

And serious anti-Americans of what is commonly called the far right, although I think that is a misnomer.

Doubt it all you want; it's in black and white; and actually, it's shocking most of the pollsters.

Well, if we ARE going to vote them off the forum,

The ones that are playing mind games by pretending to be conservatives are can be fun but after awhile when there are three or four of them playing the same game it gets kind of tiresome.

Add to that the true conservative that does have real issue with Bush oridinarly welcomes the support of these pretenders making the entire thread to leave the issue and become a Bush bashing extravagnza instead of a rational debate.

Even the conservatives that are upset with Bush will be better off if the pretenders are weeded out. Jim does that well. Its one of his gifts.

Man if you would have heard me on FR Radio tonight you probably would have blown a gasket or something!!!
One thing you have to remember, just because someone disagrees with the President doesn't mean they are bashing him. There is a lot of good folks here who are Libertarian, TaxPayers Party, etc... who believe in good conservative values and ideas but choose another party to take the path to the end result; that being freedom.

You can call me any name you like. I don't care. George W Bush is the sum of all fears. Face the facts. There is no there there. It's going to get worse.

The pie in the sky bushies think he is going to magically transform himself into a true conservative after he wins a majority in the Senate. He will not and he will not.

At least ten of the GOP senators are RINOS and what good will a couple more RINOS do? And Bush will be no different anyway. He's a globalist and has no loyalty to conservative values. He has made this clear. He harkens to a greater calling than mere mortal conservatism or liberalism. What that is I could not tell you unless its just Bushism.

They seem to be on their own wavelength. His father learned nothing from RWR and W is plainly obviously undeniably a man with no plan, no center, no honor and less common sense.

So you're one of the 9 percenters, too?

Let's get this straightened out, shall we?

I love and respect my President. I suspect that he has made his first priority, as he has said, the war on terrorism. He has done a fine job and will continue to do so, in my opinion. But, I think he has a game plan to thwart dems by taking away all their agenda. Soooo...where does that leave us conservatives? Will we be left, winning back the house and senate, at the cost of holding the bag of dem and liberal gains for years to come?

Our forefathers taught us to love our country but mistrust our government. I shall mistrust even a President such as we have now. It is truly my duty to question his decisions, not to follow blindly his every decision.

And what caused the infighting?

Raising taxes and being a gun grabber tends to do that.....
