Two delicate flowers of Southern womanhood, one from Alabama, the other from Tennessee, were conversing on the porch swing of a large white pillared mansion.
The Alabama Honey said, "When my first child was born, my husband built this beautiful mansion for me."
The lady from Tennessee commented. "Well, isn't that nice??"
The first woman continued, "When my second child was born, my husband bought me that fine Cadillac you see parked in the drive. "
Again, the belle from Tennessee commented, "Well, isn't that nice??"
The first woman boasted, "Then, when my third child was born, my husband bought me this exquisite diamond bracelet.
Yet again, the second of the ladies commented, Well, isn't that nice??"
The first woman then asked her companion, "What did your husband buy for you when you had your first child?"
"My husband sent me to charm school," declared the Tennessee belle.
"Charm school, the first woman cried, "Land sakes, child, what on Earth for?""
The Tennesseean responded, "So that instead of saying "Who gives a sh!t?"
I learned to say, "Well, isn't that nice?"

Yes..Loddy.. Have been looking at that one.. It's called an Anthony Waterer Spiraea..as far as I can tell.. I can't seem to find the one down back in my book, but I know it's a Spiraea.. They are very prevelant here in NH.. I saw very few of them in Mass.. I think that's odd, but I was thrilled with them when I moved here, and look for them in Mass and very rarely see one..

Another view of ours.. Maybe if it stops storming here, I can get a closeup of the blossom itself..
To: grannie9
Your yard is gorgeous - don't get zapped by lightning trying to get a closeup for us!

I can't believe how many plants I lost this winter tho Loddy.. It must have been the fact of very little snow.. The whole garden strip outside my kitchen window was full of Perennials and there isn't one left..and it was banked with mulch. I had Yarrow, Hollyhocks, and Speedwell.. None are there now. I guess I need to hit the Nursery soon.. If it ever warms up and stops Thunderstorming.. The garden across the patio has some survivors.. I don't understand why when it's close to an open picket fence..
To: lodwick
Someday, I'm going to take my camera and get further than my yard.. heh, heh, heh.. (as soon as the garden is in, maybe)

hi oki
I think the first name for our thread here on FR was Lcom Reunion thread
to help Ldotters find us
but tomkat switched it to the exodus thread soon after
I am so glad you joined us
if I had your email addy back then, I would have told you where to find us here
westy was lurker who jumped with us too, I had email addy for him tho so he arrived the first night
We arrived during a lightning storm which swept whole country, during Full Moon on Summer Solstice

I'm tryin' to remember if it was you or the other freeper gal I became friends with before I moved over to FR

chickie, in everyone's yard up in the Adirondacks
they had shrub which was called ''snowballs'' is that what your bush is
big white flowers

I am jealous of those who have beautiful yards. Here in southern New York, the only things that seem to grow better than grass and ornamental bushes (bush?) are onions, roses, and scraggly weeds.
*Shotgunning triples of Sambuka while listening to Rob Zombie and wandering in a mind fog*
And here we join our intrepid little adventurer as he wanders through his life. Oh look! Here he is in the wilds of Africa on a big game hunt! Doesn't he look grand standing there by those tall bushes with his helmet on? And my, look at that huge lion behind him! And there goes our intrepid little adventurer...
Join us next week on his trip through the digestive tract of a big cat!
No, this has absolutely no tie in at all. It just popped into my head with a 'high class narrator' voice....

Palo...when you mentionned 'snowballs' that rang true to my mind...in Chicago, my grandmother had these great big bushes, full of white flowers, that we also called 'snowballs'....but if I remember correctly, each 'snowball' was not itself a huge flower, but rather was made up of hundreds of smaller little flowers, which all grew close together in one place, and they formed a big cluster we called a 'snowball'...dont know for sure if that is what you are referring to, if if that is really what Grans bushes are...
But it did trigger a pleasant memory for me of my grandmothers garden, full of big bushes of these 'snowballs' along with several lilac bushes, and lots and lots of hollyhocks...
What is Miss Lulu up to? Has she had her first feeding of Kraft Singles yet? Or is she still being lazy, and snoozing?...Shes a darling gal...
