With malice towards all.... that just about sums up the Lincoln haters in this review of the most recent published diatribe.
Ping.
There are some libertarians and Libertarians who are great folks. They believe their principles strongly, and they can defend those principles reasonably. Unfortunately, there are also Libertarians who are as shrill, arrogant, and misinformed as any liberal. They consider themselves to be the only defenders of the Constitution when in truth their views are opposite those of the Constitution on many issues. "Free trade" is one of those issues where the views of the modern Libertarian Party are directly opposite those of the Constitution. While I respect their right to believe in free trade either as a practical policy or a guiding principle, they are wrong when they accuse those who disagree with them of being against the Constitution. Unfortunately, they view anyone who disagrees with them as some kind of heretic and will start an inquisition at the first sign of opposition. President Lincoln was a heretic to their way of thinking, and as such they feel that they must attack him. For all of their supposed reverence for Thomas Jefferson, even he did not govern as they claim that they would. (See
