Cats attract humans by learning how to sound pleasant

A study claims domestic cats mastered the art of miaowing to ensure they were taken in by humans.

Nicholas Nicastro says while cats don't have a language, some have learned how to sound pleasant.

He says angry-sounding cats come across as too demanding and are less likely to be adopted in instances like an animal shelter.

The Cornell University expert asked volunteers to listen to 100 different calls from 12 domestic and wild cats and rate each sound for pleasantness.

The miaows considered pleasant and appealing tended to be shorter and went from a high to low pitch.

"Mmrrant?" That's what my kitty says to me. It goes from low pitch to high pitch.

My Kitty does not go out of his way to sound pleasant....

My dad's kitty makes no noise at all... opens his mouth and meows, but nothing comes out!

My cat does that too sometimes. Sometimes she just says "aah!"

That's unbelievable that they did a study on this....what is the purpose? I can tell them now before they spend money on a study that kittens get adopted before big cats and outgoing kitties get adopted before shy kitties. Maybe I should write to someone and tell them so they know and won't have to waste time and money.... :}
