Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Movie Spy Reports and Spoilers thread)
TheOneRing.Net (and other places) ^

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of TTT news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "TTT spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

Hey, some more TTT news, this time from Tolkien-Movies:

Sean Bean (Boromir) will be arriving in New Zealand sometime after June 1st for about 4 days of filming of flashback scenes for TTT.

Interesting...

Flashback scenes will make a lot of sense for the scenes where Faramir meets Frodo... and when Gandalf arrives in Minis Tirith and meets Gandalf.

One has to wonder... They have been doing a lot of miscellaneous shooting here and there, and yet they shot hundreds of hours of film over three years already. Are they adding? - changing the story from what was originally written I wonder? - or when they went to put it together, did they realize that something didn't fit right in editing and they have to re-do the same stuff?

Yeah, thats true!
Hey, totally off topic, but I was searching for something on Google and I discovered that I've been awarded Essay Of The Week on some site for something I posted back in March on FR. The site seems to be linked with FR.
LOL! Well, I'd like to thank the Academy, and Bobby, and Joe and (sniff) all the team who made it all possible (sniff sniff)...LOL!

Here it is, complete with embarrasing spelling mistake.

"The Two Towers is too short for a film"

I really love Jackson's work in FOTR (that's an understatement, really), but this quote really has me scratching my head. It strikes me as ridiculous.

Gandalf arrives in Minis Tirith and meets Gandalf.

LOL! Thanks for giving me a laugh before I head off. Sounds like a cross between LOTR/Momento and Multiplicity, or as Jung might have said in a deep and meaningful way "Gandalf arrives, searches for answers, but in the end finds himself."

I agree with PJ, actually... Much of TTT takes longer to describe in words than on film. Pages of description of the scene and the movement of players takes seconds on screen to show. I myself have thought there is not enough that really happens in TTT to make a stand-alone film.

We have the Ents and Isengard, Theoden's epiphany, Helm's Deep, and Frodo and Sam making about an inch of progress on the map.

With the exception of Isengard, there is little closure on anything. Nothing that has a direct impact on the outcome of the story really happens in TTT. TTT is the white filling between the cookies.

Isn't that site run by John Huang2? Ask him... I think he knows about it. He often announces the FR "quote of the day" from there.

Congratulations! Quite a FReeper honor! There are some good writers here!

Hmm, a cross between LotR and Memento. Could be an intersting way to film things - backwards! Only I don't think it would work very well....

I'm about to the point I could care less about these films. Now let it be said I absolutely love Tolkien's works. But you take out Bombadil, you take out Radagast, and now the Scouring is gone? Why bother calling it LOTR? Why not just call it Fantasy Movie based in the Middle Ages Part II. This sickens me!!

Tolkien's story was rich... full of a lot of texture. It can't all be done billbears! I am not so rigid as to not allow another fan (which Jackson is) to retell what he thinks the important parts are - his favorite parts. Any one of us might have different favorite parts of the same story. - I think so far the story has been told with great care.

The movies are a summary - a retelling of the story. Not meant to replace the book, but to illustrate the book and give another interpretation. If you look at it like that, perhaps you can be happier than if you expect a word-for-word duplicate of the book.

I see that, and I do understand Jackson's retelling. However, I can understand Bombadil going more than I can the Scouring. Bombadil might be an addition that can be written out, but the Scouring does much more than just add a character
