Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Movie Spy Reports and Spoilers thread)
TheOneRing.Net (and other places) ^

Posted on 05/19/2002 5:01:59 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of TTT news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "TTT spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

Hunh?! Saruman dies at the hand of Wormtongue in ROTK, right?!

He does in the book. But there's been some speculation that Jackson would finish him off in the second movie. Including a picture that was out months ago of "Saurman" impaled on a spiked wheel of death...

That pictured emerged about a year before FotR came out.

Yes, I'm not really convinced by it, but hey, it's better than nothing! Perhaps in this rough cut preview they excluded the ending with Saruman is killed in order to keep it hush hush? Who knows...

Regarding The Two Towers soundtrack release...

Heh folks, looks like theres been something serious scheduling problems regarding the final cut of TTT and the recording of the score. As a result, the release date of the soundtrack has been pushed back about 3 weeks to the 9th of December.
I hope to obtain a copy on the 6th. ;-)

This thread has been around for several months, and I just discovered it today! If there's a ping list for it, I'd love to be on it.

I suppose it's too much to hope for to see at least the elves mounted on Arabs. If there's any horse that looks delicate and elegant and "elvish", it's them. Of course, if you know horses, you also know that Arabs are also, pound-for-pound, the toughest, stongest, and hardiest horse out there. They're just so darn small that you have to be 5'2" and weigh 90 pounds to have the right proportions to look good on one, at least for movie purposes.

I have a rather tall Arab that is 15.3! I do love beautiful horses, and look forward to the horse action in TTT. I do picture the horses of Rohan to be of a fine type. I think the choice of an Andalusion Stallion for Shadowfax was a good choice.

The little Egyptian Arabs are small, but the Polish and some Americanized Arabs are taller and leggier than that old style... click my profile to see mine, he is pure Polish.

My friend's Egyptian Arab stallion is big at 15.1, and I remember, prior to the internet days, of shopping for bits for him as he was growing up. It was next to impossible to find English bits at the bigger tack shops small enough for him.

I finally found what was needed (smooth cheek eggbutt snaffle in stainless steel) at one tack shop. As it was being wrapped up, the woman said, "I'll bet your pony will look just adorable all tacked up with this". I sorta coughed and mumbled, "Arab stallion". And I do have to cut up large apples for him, but he's such a cutie that it's worth it.

On the other hand, one of Aki's kids, out of a TB mare, is incredibly leggy and refined, with daddy's brains and do-everything talent, and mom's incredibly smooth canter. He'd be an olympic-level eventer if my friend could find someone to campaign him full time.

I hope that my next horse is a tall Arab-TB cross...

I would like to do dressage. I rode hunter jumpers when I was young, but I am not sure I want to live that fast now, to actually try any eventing.

When I first got my Bay, I tried him in dressage, but he hated the work. As a former endurance racer, his heart is on trail. And at 22, he can do whatever work he likes. He has earned that. So for now I am a trail rider. When Bay is too old to work anymore, I will consider which way to go, but he has a home here forever. He has the best heart I have ever known in a horse.

My little stallion was an Egyptian.... one of the old little grey Arabs. I loved that little horse.

That's Aki to a "T". Just don't call him "little" in his presence, because he thinks he's 18h.

I've seen him do things that I'd be reluctant to describe in a fictional story, because nobody would believe it. For instance, he lives in a field with two geldings for company, and for someone to play horse-tag with. He was raised by a grumpy old gelding who didn't tolerate snotty stud colts. Aki has turned out wondefully.

Except for the idea he has in his head that he's the only horse on the farm to be ridden. When my friend would go into his field to fetch one of the geldings, Aki would charge at him, and drive him to the far corner of the field. Then he'd swagger back to her, all happy because she had to school him, instead.

She couldn't break him of the habit, so now she brings him in from the field first, and puts him in his stall. He thinks she's getting his tack, and instead she walks by leading his buddy from the field. Aki is outraged, and screams for about five minutes that he's not the one being worked. Then he forgets (typical male), and is happy to get back to his field.

She's described Aki as "absolutely perfect 90% of the time, and typical stallion the other 10%. I can live with that."

Heh.... They do have a lot of personality don't they!

Do you have pictures of him online? I only have a couple pics of my old stallion around... But there is an album here: Webshots (Links don't work from Webshots) that has one album of "Ancient History - Old horse friends" There are two pics of my stallion there.... pasture pics, I wish I had hung on to show photos. I don't remember throwing them out, they just disapeared in a move. He was an adequate stallion for his time (I am only about 15 in those pictures) who did well at show in his day, back when Saddle Seat Arabs were not all park horses!

I would love to see yours, as long as we are off-topic! I am going to bed soon, but post a link if you have one!
