Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Movie Spy Reports and Spoilers thread)
TheOneRing.Net (and other places) ^

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of TTT news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "TTT spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

Right! - And whatever else they will throw at us! We'll buy it!

Hey - did you see the other download that came out the day before these? - It is a preview of footage that will be on the Extended Version - has gorgeous shots of the elves leaving the Shire going west and hints of the other new scenes? It was not posted here, only in the Hobbit Hole, and in the Green Dragon threads.

thanks for the heads up :-)

so many trailers, and the movie hasn't been in this area since March :-(

I guess I will get the DVD next week, then buy a DVD player, and a TV, lol

I'm with you! - I have to decide on a DVD player this weekend! Need to have one before the DVD has much value!

Don't see or buy anything until the summer of 2005, when there'll likely be a great sale on the DVDs.

Not.

The question is, how can you stand not to have *both*? Hey, I bought my first DVD player just so I could have and watch this movie! For the first time in my life, I'd actually love to own one of those huge big-screen setups. I'll be buying the extended edition, with the Argonauth bookends. I'll also be getting one of those green leaf brooches, the Middle Earth poster...I'm only upset that there really is so little merchandise. All that Star Wars junk I bought for my kids--I expected some nice stuff for LOTR for *me* and there's really very little. Jackson is dropping the ball on the merchandising. He could make enough on Arwen dolls to finance his production of the Hobbit.

I saw that, too, last night (and I also bought a DVD player just for this movie!) about the Elves passing from ME. Confused me a little...that happens in ROTK. Got to see Gandalf on Shadowfax and skeptic hubby claims that the computer subtracted the bridle (he rides, too)...

Orlando Bloom definitely should lose the mohawk.

Isn't it amazing how the makeup and costuming change these actors? Liv Tyler seems so dizzy and silly, hubby didn't like her without the ears. Elijah Wood's eyes don't seem quite so enormous, but Christopher Lee has gravitas without the costume.

I know all about it... I just bought a DVD player on Sunday too... and I have never wanted to own copies of movies before...

And I have to admit, I lingered a long time looking at the big wide-screen TVs at the store... thinking...

And I have been thinking that the replicas of the swords, like Narsil especially, would look very cool on my wall...

I have grown to be OK with the mohawk on Orlando... It fits him. I also wonder if it is functional, with his dark hair, that they had to shave his temples for the movie to keep it from showing under the blond wig. I only saw him with the mohawk during the time he was down there filming... he doesn't have it now.

Sunday was the day I bought mine, so I'd have a day or so to figure the thing out before the Big Day. Wonder if Jackson ought to get a percentage...it could be interesting to see if there's been an uptick in player sales. I have watched a movie or two on my iMac, but didn't really care one way or another. Now I own two DVDs, FOTR and Last of the Mohicans. (I'll bet you'd like that one, though it hasn't horses.)

The scene of the Argonauth was just not the same on the small screen. I may have to get a bigger set. What might be better is some small movie theaters running it now and then.

Spoiler alert!

NEW DOWNLOAD! Got it HERE:
War of the Ring

Here are the links to do it below.... Remember to Download rather than trying to stream it live (Right click/"save target as) This is the Preview trailer that was released in the theaters attached to FoTR in the Spring. It is the one previously only available on-line in that poor quality audience bootleg. What's new is the high quality Medium and even better, LARGE versions now available. I downloaded the Large, and the large version is beautifully clear even at full screen. 2J - I don't know if you can download things this big or not, but you would be so pleased at how clear Merry's scar is on his forehead in this version. Bright red blood and a cut. It is not a smudge, it is not your imagination, you are not crazy! (at least on this point).

I really tried to get a screencap, but since it is Media Player file, I don't know how - even print screen doesn't work. Penny how did you solve that?

Movie Trailers Title Text

The Two Towers Poster

The Two Towers Trailers

The First Preview Trailer (Tag On to The Fellowship of the Ring)

Medium - This is a poor quality handycam version, we will update it as soon as it is available.

Medium - Avi (17mb) - Far Higher quality version, a few subtitles, but no flickering! NEW!

Large - Avi (34mb) - The same as above, but bigger and better. NEW!

NB You need the latest DivX codec to play these last two files. You can get it here.

I am totally bummed - I "saved as" the Medium file and after a few hours of download time, all I got was the audio playing on RealOne Player.

Anyone know what happened and how to get around it?

It will play on Windows Media Player (not RealPlayer) or the DivX player - regardless of which one of those you use, you have to download the Divx player for the DivX codec... get it at the link above (bottom of my post) It is a really small file, will not take long to download. Get the free version on the left.

It will not play on RealPlayer, I tried. Wrong format.

I'm sure Treebeard would disapprove of my hastiness in saving the Medium file before I read the last line of your post at 189.

I'n downloading the DivX now - says it will take 55 minutes or so.

Dumb question - how do I get it to play on Windows Media (it's installed on my PC but the downloaded file grabbed RealOne)?

What is your preferred sobriquet? HairOfTheDog is so longggg for a lazy typist!

You have selected, somewhere along the line for RealPlayer to be your default player for .avi files. If you hunt around you may be able to find where that setting is.

In the mean time, you can either just Open Windows Media and Select "file-open-browse" and open it that way.... or you can right click the file and choose "Open with" and brouse for WMP... That may lead you to a dialogue box that will ask if you want to change your default player.

As for lazy typers.... some have called me Hair, and some have called me HOTD. I guess I have answered to both of those! But then, I have answered to "Hey you" too!

Thanks for the info at 193. When I get back to my other PC where I downloaded the stuff, I'll work on it.

I hate the Windows MP and the RealOne battle.

I'll be glad to get this fig'rd out so I can see the trailer!

"I didn't know (or remember, if I did know!) that you're a Tolkien fan ... groupie ... nerd, whatever!"

Oh yeah, I got bit by the bug early and am enthusiastically looking forward to some enterprising young director buying the rights to "The Silmarillion"...LOL!! Got the "FOTR" cassette and am making do so far, but I'd be willing to pay extra to get them to sell me the whole trilogy now!! Can't wait to see the Ents...I musta read the LOTR 3-4 times before I caught onto the significance of the Ents. Remember when Gandalf says to Frodo in the caves of Moria, "There are other forces at work in this World than the forces of Evil"? And that was interspersed with Saruman yankin' all those trees outta the ground to fire his Engines of War?! Well, it was the Ents who became aroused and totally destroyed Orthanc!!

The Ents are the Sheeple!! The Sheeple must become aroused this Autumn...MUD

BTW...I was quite disappointed in the Balrog in the movie, but I thought Sauron was credible...can y'all imagine how cool it would be to have Morgoth depicted on the big screen?!

What does your Balrog look like MUD?

I have to say I was happy with PJ's Balrog, but that one had been so hard for me to picture in my mind that almost any image helped.

"What does your Balrog look like MUD?"

Glad you asked...my Balrog is the Balrog of The Brothers Hildebrandt, who used to put out an annual Tolkien calendar in the late 70's-early 80's. Every year, like clockwork, I would receive next to my stocking, the Annual Tolkien Calendar. I saved every one...LOL!!! But the Hildebrandt's version of the Balrog is the basis of the artwork for the second Mudboy Slim and the libertarians' cassette, "Atwater's Edge!!", which made the rounds in the late-90's.

"I have to say I was happy with PJ's Balrog, but that one had been so hard for me to picture in my mind that almost any image helped."

IMHO, it was too ethereal...a true Balrog is a physical speciman, I mean, why the heck did all them Orcs flee the scene as soon as they saw the glow of the Balrog?! Gimme a break...and I couldn't even see that Gandalf's leg was hooked with the Balrog's whip (looked almost like suicide...Gandalf possesses the magic to avoid the fall as depicted), and how the heck did Gandalf get his Staff back when he jumped onto the Eagles' back to escape Orthanc?! Awww, now you got me pickin' nits on perfection, IMHO.

Can't wait 'til October!!

FReegards...MUD

This one! - I had all the Hildebrandt calendars too!

If we are picking nits, (which is sortof a gross habit), I thought they had Gandalf linger there too long clinging to the bridge. He hung on long enough for someone to run out and grab him, and there is Boromir holding Frodo back, and Aragorn standing dumbfound. It bothered me that he was hanging there that long and no one helped!
