Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Movie Spy Reports and Spoilers thread)
TheOneRing.Net (and other places) ^

Posted on 05/19/2002 5:01:59 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Beyond this point there be spoilers!

Like spoilers? – Keep reading!

Don't want spoilers? – Click HERE and don't look back!

Don't say we didn't warn you! Spoilers are what this thread is all about. So bring your rumors (substantiated or not!), spoilers, spy reports, and bones of contention about them here as the snippets of TTT news, photos and interviews come rolling in.

I wouldn't even recommend pinging people to this thread unless you know they want to see them. There are a lot of purists out there that hate to have anything given away before the movie comes out. I, however, am not one of those.

I will start a "TTT spoilers ping list" separate from the other Tolkien ping lists… so let me know if you want to be on the spoiler alert list!" If we use this thread for that kind of stuff, we won't shock people who don't want to see it. (though I bet they look anyway!)

Report 'em if you got 'em!

"The first movie blossomed into a beautiful movie last year, then it withered away and disappeared.

Viggo obviously hasn't been hanging out with us....

Thanks for the TTT pic. I am a visually-oriented person and had trouble while reading the trilogy, trying to visualize many of the things Tolkien described in detail. (I'm one of those, "Show me and I can do it, but don't make me read the book as my only way of learning," people.) Seeing this image really helps me put things together.

Man, is Christopher Lee "in" or what?

Funny, in his younger days, he would do "fantasy" flicks, but they were all "b-grade", poorly written, poorly produced stuff.

Now, when he's really PERFECT to play the kinds of roles he's really played all along, fantasy/SF stuff is ALL the rage, getting the biggest budgets, the highest billing, etc.

Man, his agent is GOOD...

I suspect that, having the film in the can, not much editing etc. was done by the "honchos" as they raced to get FOTR ready for delivery.

Once that film had finally debuted, they turned their attention swiftly to the editing of TTT, and that's when the dilemmas made themselves apparent.

Well, one thing that's funny about it: FOTR encroached onto TTT turf at the end!

Myself, I'm waiting for the 5- or 6-disk set of the complete trilogy, with all the outakes and bells and whistles they will have come up with by then.

"Now, when he's really PERFECT "

I don't really remember seeing him before, though I read he's made 2 or 3 hundred movies in his life. I really enjoy his acting in FOTR, though and am amazed at the beautiful voice. Seeing him this week in AToC was like seeing an old friend.

Set Report From Upper Hutt!
Xoanon @ 8:35 pm EST

Hutt river girl sends along this report from New Zealand. She's a new spy, so I'm not too sure if everything here is accurate, but hopefully we'll have some pictures to prove it soon!

I have just stood in a paddock of cow dung for the past four hours and watched the Master- Peter Jackson at work directing the heaven sent Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn).

Here is the scene:

Aragorn is lying injured on the river bank. His faithfull steed comes over to him nudging his face and upper body - rousing him obviously from his injuries. Aragorn comes to and grabs his mane in his fist he pulls himself up onto the horse and they walk away.

Aragorn is dirty and wet. He has a wound to his left shoulder - like a sword wound. His has blood on his hands and he is very wet.

Viggo was constantly asking for a spray bottle in which he sprayed across his face and hair. A standby person poured water from a bucket across his feet.

Aragorn's magnificant sword hangs from his hip, his clothes are very dirty and are covered in river soil.

During filming Peter Jackson sat on a little stage (pedestal) and directed things then for a different angle he sat on the ground on a tarpauline. He looked like a buddah.

The location is the Upper Hutt river, which runs behind our properties. We have been kept up all night as the generators whirrled making light so the scene could be set up.

After four hours of watching, I got cold and called it quits and came home but had to share my spy report with you all.

What an amazing experience to have a bit of Hollywood on your own back yard and filmed in a place which you love - the hutt river.

I am in awe of Viggo - he layed on the ground and let the horse nudge him constantly, then in his break he went up and spoke to a group of fans that were standing by. And he even let a little boy touch his sword which he had withdrawn from its bejewled casing.

I am not a dedicated LOTR fan but I do love Viggo he was my fav character - and are so proud that it is filmed near we live. And I can't believe I had the opportunity to see Peter Jackson in the flesh.

See you all. regards Hutt river girl.

Looks like we are in for more dirty Viggo shots! - (painful as they are to see) And I am so looking forward to the horses! - Foremost Shadowfax because of the care they took to train the horse to be ridden "at liberty" (horse speak for "elf-fashion", without bridle) But this looks like a touching scene here!
