We have received countless emails letting us know that some misguided person has started an online petition to try to convince Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema that the film of The Two Towers should be renamed in light of the events of September 11. Their reasoning behind the petition is that the title "is clearly meant to refer to the attacks on the World Trade Center," and that PJ & Co. are simply trying to "cash in" on the tragedy. For obvious reasons, not the least of which being that the second installment of The Lord of the Rings was named The Two Towers nearly 50 years before the September 11 attacks, we at TheOneRing.net consider this petition to be rather pointless and ignorant, and judging from the sarcastic and disgusted remarks in the petition itself, so do most of the people who signed it.

Could you please start a petition to stop those fascist police from using 911 as their phone number too? That is also something that bothers me.
I, too, was galled, shocked and disoriented upon learning of the cynically crass title of Mr. Jackson's new film. I would also like to start a petition to rename Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" because of its blatant insult to people of color. Also, the upcoming film "About A Boy" is a clear endorsement of pedophilia. I am also deepl[y] troubled at the subtitle of the new "Star Wars" installement, "Attack of the Clones." This scandalous title is a none-too-subtle implication that scientifically duplicated humans or other animals are violent and hostile in nature -- clearly an affront to copied citizens everywhere. We shall make no progress until Hollywood stems its insensitivity to those factions of society it chooses not to understand. As an avid filmgoer, I shall shed many tears until these senseless titles cease.

How about renaming it "The Duo Of Vertical Structures Which, Although Similar In Scale, Are Not Twins And Are At Opposite Ends Of Middle Earth, And Only Exist In That Fictional Pre-historic Realm, And Were Convieved Of In The Imagination Of J.R.R.Tolkien Nigh On 60 Years Ago."Oh well.
I want the title to be changed from "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers", to
"Lord of the Rings: Two Airliners Crashing Into The World Trade Center Tower One And Two On September 11, 2001 Causing Over 3000 Deaths All Because Islam Cannot Get Along With The Rest Of The World."
