We loved Charleston - all laid out in squares on a peninsula, with ashtrays everywhere, a cooling ocean breeze, great patriotic history - heaven. ;-)

Hi, thanks for missing me! I've been gone all day. An oil change turned into a major brake event, then it was off to the salon de beaute to hide all visible evidence of my premature (ha!) grayness, a visit with my mother and stopping by the wine store (it's hard to find good wine in W.Va., curiously, so I wait till I'm in the big city of Pittsburgh). Of course, living out in the sticks as I do, I have to drive great distances to accomplish any of this, and finally am home.
JL - I'm glad you didn't have the same experience in Charleston I did. My roommate and I arrived, walked around a bit, saw the baskets, and upon returning to the hotel learned that a hurricane was headed straight for us. Early the next morning the hotel was evacuated, everyone was ordered to vamoose, and we had to drive to Charlotte (along with about a million other people, it seemed) in order to fly back home. Somehow, I don't think I saw all Charleston had to offer in that less-than-24-hour visit.
I like today's theme, HLL. Gosh what a list of things that contribute to my happiness:
knowing God loves me and sacrificed His only son to save me from my sin
laughing and just being with my husband
puttering around my little yard and garden
playing with the neighbors' cats (I call them Black & White, White Kitty and Petey - I have no idea what their real names are)
noon hoops with my homies
living in this beautiful state (land of my ancestors)
dropping by the Guild for fun and fellowship

Of course, it'll look mighty fine outside Chelsea and Ian's trailer at the Ye Olde Trailer Park outside Oxford. You'll be able to tell their place from the rest of the folks. Unless, of course, they settle in Florida. You're on your own there, what with pink flamingos running amuck.

Good to see you still have a pulse. It's not like you to disappear without warning. Sorry about the brake thing - glad you could let the beauty parlor wash those concerns right outta your hair (don't ask me why, but I have Rogers and Hammerstein on the brain today -- I know, I know, what brain?!)

Don't tell me that you guys were there in '89 for Mr. Hugo!
I've enjoyed everyone's happiness list. You've named mine also: puppies, kitties, spouse, our country, gardening, rain, sunshine, friends - cyber & otherwise, our military, our Saviour, our parents, our health. I'll stop now - there is so much for which I thank the Lord. ;-)

Of course, it'll look mighty fine outside Chelsea and Ian's trailer at the Ye Olde Trailer Park outside Oxford. ROTFL!!! They can put them right next to one of thoses geese that's clothes change with the seasons. Chelsea's goose will only wear D&G and Versace. I wonder how the she is going to get black pants on a goose?
I forgot another thing that makes me happy, buying new pants in my regular size and having them be too big.

That's the one, Hugo. We did go out to dinner the night we arrived, and just stared, horrified, out the window of the restaurant at the trees, stoplights, etc., being blown horizontal by the winds. As I recall, Charleston didn't sustain a direct hit, but I am grateful we got out unscathed! Unfortunately, I've never had another opportunity to visit. My roommate was really disappointed that we had to leave the next morning, as she was all geared up to tour a plantation. Oh yes, the now-defunct Eastern Airlines lost her luggage on our return trip. All in all, we should have stayed in St. Louis.

Chelsea's goose will only wear D&G and Versace. LOL, I'm picturing this concrete goose with overly made-up eyes and a black dress cut down to there, just like Chelsea's bosom-popping (or flopping, as the case may be) number in Paris.

"Chelsea's goose will only wear D&G and Versace. I wonder how the she is going to get black pants on a goose?"I dunno...Hillary manages.

An Indian walks into a bar with a shotgun in one hand and a bucket of buffalo manure in the other.
He says to the bartender: "Me want beer!"
The bartender says: "Sure Chief, coming right up."
He gets the Indian a tall draft beer and the Indian drinks it down in one gulp, picks up the bucket, throws the manure into the air and blasts it with the shotgun, then he walks out.
Four days later the Indian returns. He has his shotgun in one hand and another bucket of manure in the other. He walks up to the bar and says to the bartender: "Me want beer."
The bartender says: "Whoa, Tonto, we're still cleaning up from the last time you were in here. What was that all about, anyway?
"The Indian says, "Me in training for job as State employee; drink beer, shoot the shit, disappear for a few days."

Hey - you girls should be very glad that you escaped Hugo. It NAILED Charleston with 135+mph winds, 20' plus high tide water, and mass destruction - read 7billion dollars damage.
The city tour guy was constantly referencing Hugo, especially when we were around the shoreline of the city.
It was a bitch, and I'm glad that you and your friend got buns north before it hit.
You and runningguy should go down and check it out - it's lovely!

Thanks for remembering the troops. I just picked up some more donations at a GOP meeting tonight. 2 huge boxes of potato chips and 2 cases of olive oil!! I have no idea why this olive oil importer donated the 2 cases, but all I can say is bless his heart. I can't send the oil, it's just too heavy.

Missed your titillating tidbits this a.m. I was wondering if you got a *gasp* real job, one where you had to dress up and report to an office and not have access to FR, at least not on your first day. Usually on the first day you have orientation and Benefits sign up. LOL...
Codebreaker was a no show too so I went on a search for some "gossip" and came up empty handed except for a rehash on Liza and her maybe gay hubby.
It was a British article and one of the things we didn't know was that one of Liza's girlfriends said it is no big deal if new hubby is gay because Liza is at the point in her life where sex does not matter-she just wants someone to take care of her.
Unfortunately, I lost the source so did not feel right posting it-you and CB are so good to source your things. It also mentioned that new hubby collects vintage Judy Garland clothes, has a whole room full of them. This is in addition to his much publicized Shirley Temple doll collection.

That's funny about all our olive oil - perhaps the local SalvationArmy unit could use it - upgrade the grease for a few days.

Great idea!! I hadn't thought about giving it to the Salvation Army but I have 24 gallons here and they have to go somewhere. I will call them and see if they will pick it up because I sure can't get it out of my trunk.

No, still working part-time/free-lance/whatever it is I do, although I have an interview Friday for an actual full-time PR job, so I may have to resume dressing like an adult and working regular hours soon. Eeek.

News roundup, celebrities first:
WHILE Liz Hurley is still trying to establish the paternity of her new son, the lad won't lack for uncles and such. Elton John and his lover, David Furnish, have taken Hurley and the baby under their wing, even to the extent of setting up an all-blue nursery in Elton's mansion just outside London. They say that when the christening ceremony comes around, Elton and David will be named as godparents. Neal Travis
Do we want her?:
Is Martha Stewart turning Republican? She usually gives to Democrats, but the doyenne of domesticity contributed $1,000 to U.S. Rep. Dan Burton's (R-Ind) campaign last month. Daily News.
Laura goes shopping:
POLICE CARS and haut security at the haut couture shop of Arnold Scaasi on East 52 Street. Laura Bush had stopped in last week to plan some new clothes she wants to take to Europe with her next month. She was fitted for some pretty pastel ice cream-colored suits. But she couldn't be fitted until Arnold waded through the security and got inside his own shop. He had to show ID first. Liz Smith
