7 Days ago FRee Republic had a make over, how do you like it so far?

Last Saturday free republic changed to beta format for it's web site design and the crowd went mad. Many loved the new site design and others hated the new site design.

Now that the dust has settled and a week has passed. How do you like it now?

...And, do I need to know CSS? If I do, could one of you computer-savvy FReepers direct me to a site that explains CSS in simple, easy to understand English?

As I understand it, Custom Style Sheets (CSS) are a novelty for hard-core "propeller-heads" only.
(Sorry, my technical friends.)

You do NOT need Custom Style Sheets to USE Free Republic - BETA or regular.
They only are needed to change the APPEARANCE of this forum - on YOUR computer screen.

I personally will not use them, until John Rob posts some "idiot-proof" generic versions that you can access with the click of a mouse. There WAS somewhere that you could click on a pre-programmed "Patriot" CSS to get the American flag back on your right-hand side, and I did, but I can no longer find the link. ;(

Thanks for the info and to John for the restoration of the to and from poster search . But the old titles search by poster is still missing.

Separately, you can mo longer search titles with acronyms, or abbreviations. Try a title searc for FBI, CIA, FERC. No articles.

As you well know Ernest, I hadn't figured out the old FR. (after 2+ years) LOL. I think there should be an instruction page for all the features. I accidently found out day before yesterday that we do not have to format like we once did. Oh well, us old farts learn slow. Thanks for the ping.

Yes, but then we have forgotten more than many of the young ones seem to know!

Just check around and see how many know anything about simple math, fractions, per cents, etc.

And simple Geometry!

I have many studying on those topics, some of them seem hopeless!

I like new features fine. But the lack of ancronym and abbreviation search by tiltes sucks. Try seaching FAA, NTSB, or CALISO. No dice.

Also, to find a freeper, you must know the exact name of that freeper. The old serch allowed patial name "hits."

I liked it from the start. Never had a lick of trouble figuring out how it worked. FR has changed numerous times since I've been a poster (mid-1997) and each time it has been an improvement over the previous. John and Jim do terrific work--they're real pros.

Why the TWO dates?? What does the first one mean? WHy are some of the dates all numbers and some have the month spelled out? Why do some of the threads seem to appear out of time and date sequence? Why is your nick next to the first date? And then again by the 'Posted by' ???? WHY WHY WHY?

Correction, some, but not all search features have been restored.

Try a search for GOP, JFK, FEC, etc. Maybe you don't use FR for reasearch. Many like Alamo-girl do.
