Last Saturday free republic changed to beta format for it's web site design and the crowd went mad. Many loved the new site design and others hated the new site design.
Now that the dust has settled and a week has passed. How do you like it now?
This is a question and opinion thread. Thanks!
In particular, I'd like the search function to search all forums simultaneously, and not just one forum at a time as it appears to be doing at the moment. There are too many duplicate posts as it is, and if people are forced to search seperately through five different forums in order to make sure an article hasn't already been posted, I'll bet the number of duplicate posts increases.
Other than that, I am happy.
That perversely ugly and not very useful left-hand column didn't make the cut, and that's a relief.
The commitment to CSS that they have made is going to make the look and feel much more flexible -- we're going to have to get used to saying, "If you don't like the look, change it."
Agreed....I have WebTV for the 32" TV and the bedroom.
Heck...even on my DSL computer its slower.
John....it looks good.
I wish there was an option to view all recent posts from all forums (or selected forums) on one page. I hate going back and forth between News/Activism and General Interest since I enjoy reading both subjects.
I don't like the search feature. You have to search each forum to make sure a story hasn't been posted. This is time consuming --especially since it is so much slower than it used to be.
Typical example of fixing what wasn't broken. I'll continue FReeping as FR is still the best forum around, but it isn't as user-friendly as it once was (IMHO).
Perfect discription!
I'm still waiting for the search functions to be fully restored.Your patience has been rewarded!

Free Republic "Bump List" Register

"I have created a public register of "bump lists" here on Free Republic. I define a bump list as a name listed in the "To" field used to index articles.Free Republic Bump List RegisterNOTE: This is being phased-out in favor of the new topic system. I have locked changes to bump lists. Soon they will be converted to topics, and threads bumped to these lists will be added to those topics.READ ME: You cannot sign up for a bump list. You cannot get taken off a bump list. Bump Lists are topic index folders. They only contain threads. They do not contain people." - John Robinson
What was wrong with the old FR?
And, do I need to know CSS? If I do, could one of you computer-savvy FReepers direct me to a site that explains CSS in simple, easy to understand English?
IMO, this new FR is okay, but I was happy with the way it used to be. And I mean the old, old FR. Back when we were able to embed music and applets onto our profile pages (but I do understand that there was a security issue involved with this).
Oh well, I suppose we will all adapt. This is still the best forum on the internet. :-)

This is going to be potent stuff!
May be too soon to start peppering John with questions since he states it is under construction!
Thanks
