Congratulations. I may get my first pistol(I only have a shotgun and rifle) this summer as well. It depends on $$. If I didn't spend so much on MCRGO raffle tickets the past 2 years, I'd be able to afford one. LOL.

My recommendations:
1. Try out several pistols at the range, and get something comfortable.
2. Training. As soon as I buy my pistol, I'm taking the CCW course. I won't carry often, but I want to be trained and be a RESPONSIBLE gun owner, especially in my position. If I screw up, I give every gun owner a bad name.
