I must put in my vote for "Lucille Ball" She was the Queen!!! Her book, "Love, Lucy" is a must read. That entire cast made "I Love Lucy" The Greatest show ever....... Desi Arnaz was a television genius as well.

In its time, Lucy. For all time, now that's tricky. I was just a kid, but I remember teary eyes from laughing at the Ernie Kovacs Show and Lunch With Soupy Sales. Best ever would have underlying, timeless values, which is rare for comedy. So I would have to go with My World and Welcome to It. No sitcom writer approaches Thurber.

Oh Rickie! Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

There was a movie out last fall, Rat Race (a remake of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World basically) in which Cuba Gooding Jr. ends up driving a bus load of Lucille Ball imitators.

Also way back on SNL, Gilda Radner was lucy in a skit where she had to take bombs off the end of a conveyor belt and carry them somewhere else. Well, of course, the belt kept moving faster and faster. That was a funny parody of a really stupid Lucy show.
